Halloween PE Stations

Walden students participated in some spooky Halloween stations during PE this week! The stations included (but were not limited to) ghost light bowling, climbing through spider webs on the rock wall, scootering through the haunted house and balancing over a spider infested swamp all while jamming out to some Halloween themed music. Students rotated through these stations during the class and had so much fun! These stations worked on many different physical skills including balance, hand-eye coordination, core development and throwing skills and well as social-emotional skills such as confidence building!

Please follow the link to read the great article that Vermont Rural Education Collaborative did on Mrs. Russell and all the amazing learning opportunities she brings to our middle school students. This was a very well deserved recognition of the talented Walden STEM teacher and the passion she brings to educating our students. We are lucky to have her!

7th Graders Surveying the School for Grant Proposal Ideas 7th Graders Surveying the School for Grant Proposal Ideas

The 7th graders, under the guidance of Mrs. Russell, went around to every classroom to pitch their top 3 VREC grant proposal ideas to see which one garnered the most interest. Each one of the 7th graders took part in explaining how they were going to apply for the $2000 grant through VREC and what each idea would bring to the school. They presented to VREC and another school via Zoom yesterday and it went very well with high hopes that they will receive the grant and be able to bring forth another opportunity for the whole school yet again. In the past, our 7th graders have received the VREC grant to build the outdoor bread oven, the outdoor classroom, and the disc golf course.

Mr. O's Desk Mr. O's Desk

This week I will be focusing on stress. Stress can sometimes sneak into our lives, and it affects both us and our children. It's that overwhelming feeling we get when life gets busy. But there's good news! By understanding and managing stress, we can create a calmer and happier home. Start by talking to your kids about their feelings and reassuring them that it's okay to feel stressed sometimes. Encourage them to take breaks, play, and practice deep breathing. As care givers, let's lead by example, and together we can build a stress-resilient community! The CCSU also offers access to Talkspace when things get too hard to handle. Please reach out for more information.
