Greetings, Millswood Families! 🐻💚

We hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! First and foremost, a reminder that tomorrow, Monday, September 7, is Labor Day. Millswood Middle School will be closed in observance of the holiday.

We are excited about our first three-day weekend of the school year, and we hope everyone gets some much-needed rest, spends time with family, has some fun, and comes back recharged. Because if I know anything about a four-day school week…it’s that we somehow manage to squeeze five days of excitement into four! 😄

⏰ Wednesday – Minimum Day

Wednesday is a Minimum Day. Students will be dismissed from 6th period at 11:38 a.m. Students who would like to eat lunch on campus may remain until 12:08 p.m.

🎉 Thursday – Our First School Dance!

We are excited for our first Millswood school dance of the year this Thursday! The dance is open to both 7th and 8th graders.

🎟️ Ticket Sales

• Tickets go on sale Tuesday during Homeroom.
• Students will also have an opportunity to purchase tickets Wednesday after school.
• All tickets must be purchased by Wednesday after school.

A few important reminders for families:

• 📵 No phones: Our regular phone expectations still apply. Students may have their phones with them, but phones should not be out or used during the dance.
• 🪪 Bring your Millswood ID: Students must bring their lanyard/ID for us to verify identification upon entry. They will not be required to wear it throughout the entire dance.
• 🚪 Early Pick-Up: Gates will open for dismissal at 7:30 p.m. If your student needs to leave before 7:30, a parent or guardian must come to the school to check them out. Students will not be permitted to leave on their own before then.
• 📋 Additional expectations and dance information will be included on the student's ticket, so please review it together before Thursday.

We can't wait to see our Grizzlies having fun and showing their school spirit!

📚 Only Four Weeks Left in Quarter 1!

Believe it or not, we only have about four weeks remaining in the quarter! Now is a great time to sit down with your student, check Aeries, review any missing assignments, and make a plan to finish the quarter strong.

Fall Break is right around the corner! If you’re looking for an opportunity for your student to spend some extra time learning, connecting, and having fun on campus, Millswood will be hosting Fall Intersession during the first week of break, September 28–October 2. 8th grade students attending Catalina are not excused from homework for the week. However, our teachers have come up with creative ways to be sure those attending don't miss instruction and have the opportunity to get their work done before they go! If your student is attending Catalina, they should begin checking with their teachers this week to see how to stay on top of the workload.

This Tuesday and Friday (Sept 8 and 11th) all students going to Catalina should plan to attend the Catalina Math Party. There will be good snacks and good instruction so that your student doesn't fall behind. 2:20-3:30 in their math classroom.

• Fall Dance is this Thursday! Purchase tickets will be paid for upon delivery on September 8 and 9. We are looking forward to our first dance of the year on September 10 from 6:00-7:30.

• Friday, September 25 is our first Lunch with a Loved One. It is also the last day of the quarter and a Millswood Minimum Day. Come have lunch with your child at 11:38. LUSD Nutritional Services will be here selling walking tacos, so skip the fast food line and pick up lunch here!

Ok sorry for all of the caps, but if you are interested in joining Parent Club, please join us at our next meeting Monday, September 21 at 6 PM in the MPR. At our last meeting, it was clear that we have plenty of positions that need to be filled and I just know that our parents will step up when called! See the flyer for more information.
