October, 2025
A Note from the Head of School – Mrs. Jamie Rogers
The month of October has been one to remember at Laurel Christian School! We celebrated our inaugural Homecoming, and what a special milestone it was for our school family. The week was filled with excitement, creativity, and school spirit. From dress-up days to the pep rally, it was wonderful to see both the upper and lower school campuses united in celebration. The planning and preparation took time and teamwork, but it was absolutely worth it to see the smiles, laughter, and joy that filled our halls. We are already looking forward to making next year’s Homecoming even bigger and better!
October also marked the end of the first quarter, and I’m proud to say that our students and teachers have found their rhythm. Everyone has settled into the expectations of their grade level, adapted to curriculum changes, and embraced the new faces among our LCS family. The lower school successfully launched a new math curriculum, our upper school students prepared for and completed the ACT, and classrooms across campus were filled with hands-on learning, from science experiments to projects that sparked creativity and curiosity.
The momentum is strong, and I truly believe LCS is in a position to soar as we continue this school year. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in helping our students grow academically, spiritually, and personally.
I want to invite you to attend our Thanksgiving Chapel on Friday, November 21 at 9:40 at the Upper School campus.
If you don't follow LCS on Facebook, I encourage you to do so! https://www.facebook.com/laurelchristianlions/

Homecoming Princesses
As part of Laurel Christian School’s inaugural Homecoming celebration, our youngest students joined in the excitement by serving as Homecoming Princesses. Representing grades 1 through 6, these precious girls added an extra touch of charm and joy to the event. Dressed beautifully and full of smiles, each princess proudly represented her grade and helped make the court presentation even more special. Their participation reminded everyone that Homecoming is a celebration for the entire LCS family—students of all ages shining their light together. It was a heartwarming sight and a cherished memory from this historic first Homecoming!

Inaugural LCS Homecoming - 2025
Laurel Christian School celebrated its first-ever Homecoming, and it was truly a week to remember! The theme, “Be the Light,” reminded students to shine brightly for the Lord in all they do. Each day featured fun dress-up themes that allowed students to creatively express how they shine their light.
The week’s excitement built up to Friday’s pep rally, where school spirit filled the gym and the Homecoming Court was presented. On Friday evening, the senior class hosted a Homecoming Dance for grades 7–11 at the YWCO, marking another memorable first for LCS.
Saturday’s festivities began with the presentation of the Homecoming Court and the crowning of Laurel Christian School’s first Homecoming Queen, Ms. Emma Risher. Following the crowning, students and families gathered on the field for powder puff games, tailgating, and plenty of food and fellowship.
The entire week was exactly what LCS needed—a joyful time to celebrate school pride, friendship, and community. Everyone left with full hearts and great memories, already looking forward to Homecoming 2026!
Lower School Campus
Lower School Family Picnic
The Lower School hosted its very first Family Picnic, and it was a wonderful success! Families and friends were invited to join their LCS students on the playground for a special outdoor lunch. The fall weather provided the perfect backdrop as everyone enjoyed great food, laughter, and fellowship in a relaxed setting. It was a refreshing break from the normal school routine and a sweet reminder that some of life’s greatest joys come from simply spending time together. The event was such a hit that many are already asking for it to become an annual LCS tradition!
Kindergarten Visits Mitchell Farms
Our kindergarten students had a wonderful day at Mitchell Farms! They experienced life on the farm with a wagon ride, train ride, pumpkin picking, slides, and playtime in Tiny Town. The field trip was filled with smiles, laughter, and the joy of discovery. It’s always exciting to step away from campus and enjoy learning and fun in a different setting. The students made special memories with their classmates and teachers—memories that will last a lifetime!
Dyslexia Awareness Month - October
October has been designated as Dyslexia Awareness Month. It is a time to bring awareness to the most common learning disability - Dyslexia. The latest research shows 1 in 5 people are found to have dyslexia. “Dyslexia is a specific learning disability characterized by difficulties in word reading-affecting accuracy, speed, and/or spelling, that can vary depending on the written language system. The cause and development of dyslexia involve the interplay of multiple biological and environmental influences.” This month focuses on advocating for students and adults with dyslexia, ensuring access to resources and support for this most common disability, and creating inclusive environments for the social and emotional needs of people with dyslexia. Early signs of dyslexia include learning to speak later than most kids and having a hard time pronouncing words, having difficulty recognizing rhyming words, struggling to separate sounds in words, and blending sounds to make words. Later signs of dyslexia are having trouble with reading fluency, recognizing high frequency words, learning letters and sounds, spelling, decoding, and comprehension. There is no “cure” for dyslexia but intervening with dyslexia therapy and effective accommodations can help with managing symptoms and improve reading and writing skills. Early intervention is also the key for individuals with dyslexia to succeed academically and emotionally. Laurel Christian School has a new dyslexia therapy program that is free of charge to children that have a diagnosis of dyslexia. My name is Chandra Graham and I am a licensed dyslexia therapist as well as a certified academic language therapist with nine years of experience. If you have any questions concerning dyslexia or how to have your child diagnosed, feel free to contact me at cgraham@laurelchristian.org.
LCS Students Out and About
Juniors and Seniors Tour Howard Industries
Recently, our juniors and seniors had the opportunity to tour Howard Industries, gaining an inside look at a thriving local business. During the visit, students learned about the company, heard from both a recruiter and an engineer, and toured the plant to see operations firsthand.
We sincerely appreciate Ms. Erin Miller for coordinating this trip and making it possible. Experiences like these give students valuable insight into local industries and career opportunities, helping them make informed decisions about their future paths.
Middle School Quiz Bowl Team Competes at MAIS Tournament
The LCS Middle School Quiz Bowl Team recently competed in the MAIS Quiz Bowl Tournament, representing our school with enthusiasm and determination. Team members include Kennedi Connally (7th grade), Carson Moffett (8th grade), Myles Straub (8th grade), Sam Lyons (8th grade), and Andrew Hill (8th grade). The team is coached by Mr. Nate Brunk.
This talented group demonstrated great teamwork and a love for learning as they faced off against other schools in a fast-paced academic competition. Although still a young team, they have already shown tremendous potential and are developing into fierce competitors for future tournaments.
We are proud of their hard work and the way they represented LCS with excellence!
LCS Students Recognized by the Laurel Sertoma Club
The Laurel Sertoma Club honors outstanding students each month from local schools, recognizing their academic achievement, leadership, and service to others. This month, both the September and October Students of the Month were recognized from Laurel Christian School — Nataly Do and Leyla Rigby.
Nataly and Leyla are both juniors who serve LCS through their involvement in Student Council, National Honor Society, and BETA Club. Their leadership and commitment to excellence reflect the values we strive to instill in all our students.
Both young ladies chose Mrs. Logan Boe to accompany them as their honored teacher, recognizing her positive influence and encouragement in their educational journey.
We are proud of Nataly and Leyla for representing LCS with excellence and Christlike character in our community!
BETA Club Attends Leadership Convention at USM
During fall break, a few members of the LCS BETA Club attended the Leadership Convention at the University of Southern Mississippi. Over the course of two days, students participated sessions focused on what it means to be a true leader and how to bring their best every day.
They learned practical ways to grow as leaders—by showing a better attitude, giving more effort, paying attention to details, and managing their time wisely. One key takeaway from the convention was that leadership is ultimately about serving others. Students were challenged to BE BUSY changing the world and making a positive difference wherever they go.
The BETA Club is now channeling that motivation and energy as they prepare for the upcoming state competition. We are proud of our students for representing LCS well and for their commitment to leading with excellence and purpose!
Serving the Community
October Community Service Project
As part of our commitment to serving others, the Upper School will take on a community service project each month this school year. For October, students will participate in a “Canned Meat” Drive.
Collection begins: October 14
Distribution date: November 12
Beneficiaries: Chunky Community Church Food Pantry & Glory House Food Pantry
Drop-off location: Mr. Brown’s classroom
To make it fun and encourage participation, the grade with the most donations will receive a special treat!
This is a wonderful way for our students to give back to the community while working together for a common goal. We are excited to see the generosity of our LCS family in action.
Athletics - LCS Lions
Lady Lions Softball Finishes Strong
The Lady Lions Softball Team had another outstanding season, finishing 3rd overall in the MAIS 2A State Tournament! Their dedication, teamwork, and determination were evident all season long, and the entire LCS community is proud of their accomplishments.
LCS was also well represented in the 2025 MAIS All-Star and Futures Games. Emma Risher competed in the All-Star Game, while Leyla Rigby and Gracie Blackwell took the field in the Futures Game. The Futures Red Team, coached by Tyler Blackwell, came away with the victory—and to top it off, Leyla Rigby earned the MVP Award for her exceptional performance.
Congratulations to our Lady Lions players and coaches for another season that showcased skill, heart, and school pride. We can’t wait to see what next year brings!
Cross Country Team Wraps Up a Strong Season
The Laurel Christian School Cross Country teams wrapped up an exciting season with impressive performances at the state meet. The Lady Lions finished 4th overall as a team, while the boys team earned a 5th-place finish.
A special congratulations goes to Brody, who placed 20th in the state in the Varsity Boys division. Throughout the season, every runner showed steady growth and determination—culminating in personal best times at the state meet. The LCS Cross Country program continues to shine as our athletes exemplify hard work, perseverance, and school pride.
CALL TO ACTION
Partnering Together to Invest in Eternity
In my two and a half years at Laurel Christian School, I have been amazed at the generosity of Audubon Drive Bible Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church. Housing LCS on their campuses and helping to maintain the grounds and buildings is a blessing beyond measure. Each campus is beautiful, well cared for, and a reflection of their desire to see young people flourish. The support of the churches through meeting physical needs, offering financial help, and providing spiritual guidance is a testimony of God’s provision, allowing His will to be accomplished.
When I meet with church and board leaders, their mission is clear: to provide a place in Laurel where students can receive an excellent education grounded in a biblical worldview, educating for eternity. Many churches faithfully support missions and missionaries, serving across the globe. Yet, what greater mission could there be than investing in the life of a child here at home, ensuring that every day they are exposed to the Word of God? That is an eternal impact.
Seeing the selfless giving of these two churches leads me to ask: why not more? Imagine the reach we could have if more churches, businesses, and individuals joined together to support this mission. Together, we can provide more opportunities, touch more lives, and make a greater difference in the Kingdom.
I am asking you to prayerfully consider this opportunity. Talk to your church leadership, your Sunday school class, or your small group. Encourage them to consider supporting LCS as a mission project.
I would be more than happy to meet with you personally and show you around Laurel Christian School. There is no greater time than now to ensure our young people grow with the truth of the Word.
