WEEKLY HAWK
April 20-24, 2026
Message from Mrs. Lloyd
Hello Homestead Families,
This week ended with all the excitement of Donuts with Grown Ups! Thank you for all who pivoted to make this event happen indoors due to the cold weather. There is no question that the kids loved the extra kick of sugar and friendship in the morning. We loved seeing all the grown ups with their children and hope it was a special morning for you!
We are working hard on ending this last month of school with lots of learning and fun opportunities. At the same time, we are planning forward for the 26-27 school year already! We invite you to join us at our PTCO General Meeting this Tuesday at 6:00pm where I will discuss any known staffing changes for next school year. We will also have West principal, Aspen Burkett here. Additionally, right before, at 5:00pm our NSS (formerly Gifted and Talented) teachers will be hosting an informative parent meeting. All are welcome to attend - your child does not need to be identified as gifted to attend our informational meeting. We hope you are able to join us!
We also have a really fun Friday planned with our 5th grade Science Fair and a 3rd-5th grade author visit! Such great opportunities for our intermediate students! Also on Friday is Time Travel day - a fun spirit day where students get to dress like their "little self or dress from any previous decade - or go into the future and be at your job."
We are still working hard on CMAS over here! 3rd grade finished up last week and 4th grade is mid-assessment cycle. I'm proud of all of the hard work of our Hawks and staff during testing season. If you have a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader be sure to give them a little extra love during this test-heavy time.
Take care,
Katie

Field Day
Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you that this year's field day will feature an inflatable bounce course and inflatable dry slide as one of the activity stations for the students. To ensure the safety of all participants, it is necessary for each student to have a waiver completed, including their name and your signature, to participate in the bounce course.
Please note that if I do not receive the signed waiver, your child will be unable to participate in this station during field day. The waiver has been provided in your child's Friday folder (and attached below as well). Kindly ensure that your child returns the completed waiver to their classroom teacher, who will then forward it to me.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Best regards,
Ms. Brownell

From the NSS (GT) Department
Join us for an informative NSS (GT) Parent Meeting at Homestead Elementary on Tuesday, April 21st from 5:00–6:00 PM, hosted by Mr. Hoopes and Mrs. Key. During this session, we will share an overview of gifted services, including the identification process, the range of support and differentiated learning opportunities offered, and what families can expect throughout the year. Our goal is to make this time helpful and supportive, so we’ll also provide space for your questions and conversation. We look forward to partnering with you and hope to see you there!

Hawks Nest Summer Camp
Dear Homestead community,
We have the chance to keep plastic film out of landfills! This spring during Earth Month, our school is hosting a Ridwell recycling drive. You’re invited to bring your used plastic film (ziptop bags, grocery bags, bubble wrap, and lots more) to school from April 15 to April 22 and Ridwell will make sure it stays out of landfills. Start collecting plastic film now so you have a bunch to bring during the drive!
This info sheet explains what plastic film is and why it’s hard to recycle, and this video shows a ton of examples. All the plastic film we collect during the drive will be turned into Trex decking!
Curious about Ridwell at-home recycling pickup? They collect hundreds of common household items you can’t recycle curbside, like plastic food packaging, lightbulbs, clothes, Styrofoam, and more. You can help the school earn rewards if you sign up for a household membership by May 22. We’ll earn pickup of the school’s plastic film for the entire ‘26/’27 school year when 10 new members sign up.
To get students excited, there will be a grade-level competition at our school. The grade level with the most plastic film collected during that week will earn an extra recess and an ice cream treat! Each grade will collect as much plastic film as possible. The grade level that has the most film (determined by weight) will be the winner!
Thank you!
From,
Your Student Council

ATTENTION: All Volunteers at Homestead
Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. As of January 2022, we began asking every volunteer to complete a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools.
If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the CCSD online volunteer form. To access the form, click on the following link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NzU0OmVuLVVT or scan the QR code. It should only take a few minutes to complete and you will only need to complete this form once a year to meet the requirements to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.
Please note: if you completed this application more than one year ago, it is time to do it again!
The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a badge printed from our Raptor system or a District ID.
We want to thank you in advance for your support of our schools and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Homestead main office at 720.554.3700.
