It has been a busy week, but that is one of the things that makes CV such an incredible place to be! There is no shortage of people to meet, classes to be engaged in, or activities to attend. And now is the time to really lean in. ShowDOWN is in just 2 weeks and I cannot wait to celebrate how great it is to be a Sabercat with all of you.

Have a restful long weekend--we'll see you on Tuesday!

With Gratitude,

Alissa Jonesz

Fire Drill 9/4 Fire Drill 9/4

In the spirit of not sending too many emails, please see below our update on the fire alarm evacuation that occurred this afternoon:

At around 2:30 today (9/4), we evacuated due to a fire alarm. The fire department immediately responded and our evacuation lasted approximately 11 minutes. We reoccupied the building once we received the all-clear and returned to normal operations. The alarm was determined to be caused by hairspray in the dressing rooms while students were preparing for rehearsal. We returned to the building once fire personnel determined there was no danger.

As you may know, during an Evacuation, students and staff are moved outside and a safe distance away from the building, but remain on school grounds while officials determine when it is safe to return indoors.

Beginning this month, a certified service animal will be present in our school to assist one of our staff members as an accommodation. The handler of the service animal is protected under the ADA and has the right to be accompanied by the animal. Students with allergies were already contacted by our Nurse, Jayne Williams. If you did not receive that communication, you can reach out to her at jwilliams@dcsdk12.org.

We kindly ask that you refrain from petting or touching the service animal, as it has specific tasks to perform for its owner. Thank you for your understanding and support!

Show Up

Aldiana Selimovic: She shows up for her classmates in science. Every day she's learning how to help modify the content of Physical Science and present the information at appropriate levels for our SSN learners. She is embodying inclusion, exemplifying care, and she's fully engaged in building their understanding.

Grace Fish: Grace is always very helpful to others (students and EA's!) in class. Grace has been wonderful helping out our new 9th graders and making them feel welcome and included at Castle View!

Robbie Warnick III: Robbie has such a positive attitude every day. He shows up to Chemistry ready to work hard, and collaborate with his peers. Keep up the good work Robbie!

Jaliyah Gibbons Ramirez: Jaliyah has been doing such a great job this year. She is working so hard at keeping up with all of her work and turning everything in on time. Her hard work is paying off and I am proud of her and her determined attitude.

Lincoln & Gibson Gutteron: These two were in the main office and I really needed help bringing in multiple items from my car and when I asked for help they did not hesitate for even a moment! I was so appreciative of their help. They definitely SHOWED UP as true Sabercats!

Show Out

Cade Campbell: Cade is doing such a wonderful job in Spanish this year. He always emails ahead when he is going to be gone and makes up his work quickly. He also has been communicating really well in Spanish and I appreciate his effort. Great job!

Amy Medina Serrano: Amy strives for excellence each day in the CVHS community. Every day, she's working hard to challenge herself to get better, and bring those around her up with her. She is also respectfully outspoken and often speaks out for the disadvantaged and marginalized in society. It's an honor to have her in class this year. Nicely done, Amy.

Aden Estes: Aden helped launch our new elementary band and orchestra program, Castle View Crescendo, by being at every pep rally and try-out assembly as we visited each of the feeder elementary schools. He was patient and encouraging as he helped 5th and 6th grade students try-out the viola. Not only that, but he comes down to help the middle school orchestra students during his off-hours and is in both orchestras at CV. Aden shows-out everyday by going above and beyond as a leader in the orchestra program.

Abigail Alexander & Briana Barron: A huge thank you to Abigail Alexander and Briana Barron for going above and beyond to make delicious German food for your class! The class really enjoyed a special treat of homemade authentic food! Danke schön!

Show Down

Nora Henson: Nora is such a great kid to have in Spanish. She works hard to understand the material, asks questions and communicates beautifully in Spanish. I have really enjoyed getting to know her in class!

Kai Turner: Kai is a new student to us from Oklahoma. Kai is showing an outstanding amount of grit and determination by taking chemistry and he does so with a positive attitude, receives feedback, acts upon it, and is striving to get off to a good start. That's a lot of life changes and challenges to deal with and I consider CV pretty lucky that we got to add such a gritty kid. Others could learn from his lead.

Emily Buechler: Emily strives to contribute to the class and do her best in whatever she does.
