HHS Dance Team Makes an Incredible Competitive Debut! HHS Dance Team Makes an Incredible Competitive Debut!

The HHS Dance Team competed for the very first time this weekend and made the Hawthorne Bears proud with an outstanding performance against some of the region’s top dance programs!

Their routine, “Strongest Suit,” earned FIRST PLACE in the Senior Intermediate Small Group Category while also receiving a HIGH GOLD rating with an impressive score of 279.1.

In addition, Amelia Buccheri and Gianna Scola performed their duet, “Big Spender,” and delivered an incredible performance, earning a remarkable score of 287, a very high HIGH GOLD rating, and placing tenth overall in the highly competitive Senior Elite Duo Category.

What makes these accomplishments even more impressive is that HHS was the ONLY high school competing against some of the area’s very best dance studios. This is an enormous achievement for our dancers and a true testament to their dedication, talent, and hard work throughout the season.

We are incredibly proud of the HHS Dance Team and congratulate all of the performers and coaches on an unforgettable first competition! Click here to watch the award being given to HHS.

Running Toward Success

We are excited to share the results of our PACER Test Lap Guess Challenge and celebrate the incredible effort shown by all of our students!

First, congratulations to Joshua for coming the closest to guessing the total number of laps completed schoolwide. His guess of 6,506 was only 128 laps away from the actual total of 6,378—great guessing, Joshua!

Congratulations also goes out to all K–5 students for a fantastic job practicing for and completing the FitnessGram PACER Test. Our K–2 students worked hard, building up to 20 laps, while students in grades 3–5 pushed themselves by running until they couldn't run anymore. The effort and determination shown by everyone was outstanding.

We are proud to share that our students made significant improvement from the fall test. In the fall, students ran a total of 5,520 laps. This spring, they ran an incredible 6,378 laps! Altogether, that’s a little over 79 miles—enough distance to reach the Point Pleasant Boardwalk and still have 4 miles left to walk up and down it.

A special shout-out goes to CJ, who achieved an amazing 88 laps. He remains the first and only member of the exclusive “Club 77” for students who fill in the entire PACER test score sheet—an incredible accomplishment!

AP Seminar Presentations

A huge congratulations to Ms. Wolsk's AP (Advanced Placement) Seminar students on their completion of their Individual Multimedia Presentations (IMPs). After completing a rigorous research paper, each student individually presented their findings in front of a panel and responded to questions in a formal oral defense. At the start of the process, students were provided stimulus sources used as a springboard to explore a topic and eventually develop a research question.

Then, students dove into their own research to determine solutions and/or conclusions. Topics this year included gentrification, hybrid work schedules, 3rd spaces, and the impacts of hosting global sporting events.

This is the second performative task of the course that is officially scored and sent to College Board, making up 35% of their overall AP Seminar score. Students then take their formal exam in May.

Exploring Chemical Reactions in Action

Students in Mr. Hurley's Chemistry class explored five different types of chemical reactions. They conducted a synthesis reaction, a decomposition reaction, two single replacement reactions, and a double replacement reaction. Throughout the lab, students observed and recorded the physical properties of each substance before and after the reactions. They then applied their understanding by writing the complete chemical equations and balancing each reaction.
