Hanover Street School Newsletter December 18, 2023

One of my Favorite Bulletin Boards

As I look at the window, I'm realizing that I should have deleted the picture of snow on a pine cone since it seems rather out of touch with our sixty degree day with a flood warning!

It was fabulous to see so many parents in the building for teacher conferences. The staff put a lot of effort into trying to set up a meeting with every parent and provide you with helpful information about how your child is doing in school. You should have received your child's NWEA scores from your teacher or through your child's backpack. Please let me know if you still need them. Kindergarten did not take this test.

This is a very busy time of year for families and schools. We have a short week because there is no school on Friday. Please try to keep your regular school routine intact for these last four days.

Thank you for such a welcoming fall and I look forward to seeing some of you at our holiday assembly on Thursday at 2:00!

Winter Assembly

Please join the whole school in the gym on December 21st at 2:00 for a winter celebration. We will have a lot of people in the building, so we will need to do dismissal as usual. You will exit the school after the assembly and then at 3:00 we will dismiss using PikMyKid. We hope to see you all then.

Winter Gear for Recess

We will go outside for recess as long as the 'Feels Like' temperature is at least 10 degrees and the weather is reasonable (Unlike today's sidewise rain). Remember to take a Sharpie and put your child's name or initials on all coats, mittens, snow pants, etc. as this helps us return lost items.

2/23/24: Front flap of passport turned in

3/29/24: Back flap of passport turned in

It is a tradition in the Lebanon School District for the elementary schools to hold a yearly author event during reading week.

It is my pleasure to announce the long anticipated visit with next year's author, Ryan T. Higgins. This event was first scheduled and canceled during the pandemic shut down and although he isn't currently visiting schools, Ryan graciously agreed to reschedule with us.

Wednesday, March 6th

Ryan T. Higgins

WINTER and HOLIDAY SAFETY

  1. Be mindful of what plants you have in the house during the Holiday season. Mistletoe, holly berries, and poinsettias can be toxic if ingested (by kids or animals). Be sure to check in with Poison Control with any concerns.

  2. Be sure to register new toys and products so that you can be notified should there be a safety recall.

  3. Bundle up during cold, windy weather to prevent frostbite and hypothermia. Be sure to wear warm, dry clothing. Wear lots of layers and avoid cotton! And be sure to wear a hat as a tremendous amount of body heat is lost through your head.

  4. Use safety gear. Be sure to wear helmets when skiing, snowboarding, or skating. HELMETS are very effective at preventing skull fractures and concussions, and almost 100% of kids under 9 wear a helmet!

COVID REMINDERS

  1. The Lebanon School District is following CDC guidelines. Please review the information below:

  • It is recommended that a person test with any cold symptoms. Please contact me if you need COVID tests.

  • Should a person test positive, the day of the test OR the onset of symptoms is considered DAY 0.

  • If the test is positive, then one needs to isolate for Days 1 - 5.

  • One can return to school on Day 6 and needs to wear a mask for Days 6 - 10.

  • Please contact the nurse if your child tests positive.

  • If a family member tests positive, it is also recommended that household members wear a mask for 10 days.

Should you have any questions, please contact me.

Wishing you all a Happy, Healthy Holiday Season and a Festive New Year!
