Happy December Hawkins Families,
With the weather and everything going on it definitely feels like the holiday season. We had a great PTO meeting this week. Thanks to all of you that came out. The support has been amazing here lately, between our Gleaners Food Drive, Toys for Toys Campaign and all of the extra volunteering you have been doing, our families have been amazing. Last night at the Toys for Tots Santa Night at Brighton Ford, we met our goal of 1,200 toys donated! For this reason, students will receive two incentive rewards!! First, we will do a movie choice day next week where students can pick any teacher's room to go watch a 30 minute video. The bigger incentive reward, is that students will get to witness our staff having the great inflatables race through the halls of Hawkins.
I mentioned in our PTO meeting that it is important that you make sure you know what your child is wearing to school. We have many students today, with temperatures below 10 degrees, in shorts. If you are ok with that, we don’t fight it, but just want to make sure you are aware. The district policy for going out for recess is 0 degrees actual or with wind chill, but we do use our discretion. An example would be this morning, when it was 7 degrees and we brought students in at drop off. I also wanted to remind everyone that transportation is sub contracted for the distinct. They have their own cameras, and handle their own discipline. I never mind you reaching out if you have gone through transportation and need additional help, but please know that reaching out to them should be the first step.
As we are in our snowy season, please know our custodians work hard to keep all areas plowed and clear for the students. We do have a few spots where drainage from the building causes sidewalks to ice over, even when salted. We will try to keep a close eye on these areas and block them off if needed, but if you notice an area of concern, please reach out. Have a great weekend everyone, stay warm and safe.
**REMINDER...First trimester report cards are now available to view in Parent Connect**
Have a great weekend everyone!

News From The Nurse
Parents, it is that time of year again where it is important to be checking your students head for head lice. While they are not harmful, they most certainly are a nuisance and can be difficult to get rid of. Please notify your school if your child has a case of head lice so we can take measures to hopefully stop them from spreading. Should you need any more information here is a link for your reference:https://www.cdc.gov/lice/about/head-lice.html
We sincerely appreciate your help and understanding in this matter!

Parent Volunteers
All parent volunteers must undergo a background check in order to volunteer at Hawkins. If you have not done so yet and are planning on volunteering at Hawkins, click on the link below to access Brighton Area Schools Background Check Form.
Just-In-Case Clothes
Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothes in their backpack and/or locker in case of accidents or emergencies (i.e. bathroom accidents, playground mishaps, lunchroom spills, ripped or torn clothes, etc.). We do not have extra clothes to lend out. An extra set here at school saves parents an extra trip to Hawkins during the school day. We appreciate your help!!!
