South Metro GNETS Newsletter
Winter 2026
Greetings!
We are excited to welcome students and families into the second semester and to share the many
instructional and therapeutic opportunities planned for the months ahead. As we continue our
strong instructional focus, staff will be preparing students for upcoming standardized state
testing, with the GMAS beginning in April.
This spring also brings the continuation of several key therapeutic programs that support student
growth and well-being. Equine therapy will resume in March, alongside our ongoing Art and
Music Therapy programs. Both JB Henderson and Ash Street Centers are also eager to begin the
installation of new calm-down spaces designed to help students regulate during crisis events.
Additionally, recent upgrades and additions to sensory rooms at both centers have provided
valuable sensory outlets, particularly for students with Autism.
Staff will continue to encourage students to practice social skills and coping strategies, with a
focus on positive decision-making and increased independence. Our goal remains to prepare as
many students as possible for successful transitions to less restrictive settings for the 2026–2027
school year.
Finally, South Metro GNETS is excited to utilize the LiftEd and LiveSchool data platforms to
document and monitor student progress. LiveSchool includes a parent portal that allows families
to track daily behavior. Parents who need login information are encouraged to contact their
child’s social worker for assistance.
We look forward to a productive, supportive, and successful second semester for all of our
students.
Warm regards,
Derrick Gilchrist
