Report Card Updates
As we approach the end of the first quarter, we want to share an update about the elementary report card this school year. The elementary report card will provide a quarterly overall update on your child’s progress. Throughout the quarter, your child’s teacher will continue to communicate specific information about your child’s growth in relation to the standards and units they are learning.
In addition to the grades your child has earned, the report card comment will help clarify aspects of the report card and document key considerations. They will also direct parents to ParentVUE for school, district, and state assessment results. During your student led parent/teacher conference, your child and his or her teacher will review assessment information with you and provide specific, individualized feedback and data about your child’s progress.
We look forward to partnering with you as we celebrate your child’s successes and work together to support their continued growth.
Ashburn & Dulles North Elementary School Attendance Zone Change Process
This fall, LCPS is reviewing the attendance boundaries for 18 elementary schools in the Ashburn and Dulles North area – including Steuart Weller. A dedicated webpage (www.lcps.org/2025ESBoundaries) has been established and will provide all data and information as it is shared with the School Board; there is also a direct link to this webpage from our school’s homepage, look for the ‘Fall 2025 ES BOUNDARY PROCESS’ link.
Adopted attendance zone changes will take effect in the fall, with the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
This review process is designed to ensure our schools are well-balanced, neither overcrowded nor under-utilized, so every student has access to the resources and opportunities they need. The process is guided by Policy 6530, which requires that all school attendance zones be reviewed every five years.
The School Board has scheduled a series of meetings to facilitate the review of this attendance zone process. Three attendance zone public hearings have been scheduled on November 5, November 24 and December 8. All meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held at the LCPS Administration Building (21000 Education Court, Ashburn). These meetings will also be broadcast live on Comcast channel 18 or 1070 (HD) and Verizon Fios channel 43 as well as streamed via simultaneous webcast on the LCPS website.
Families and community members are encouraged to stay informed and participate in the conversation. As the School Board considers plans, including others besides the two staff plans (Staff Plan R11 and Staff Plan R17) presented on October 28, they will be posted on the www.lcps.org/2025ESBoundaries page – and may propose alternate changes specifically for Steuart W. Weller's current attendance zone.
Written comments and questions can be sent to the LCPS Planning & GIS Services office at lcpsplan@lcps.org; all received correspondence will be shared with the School Board.
News from SWES PTO
Upcoming Events
Hello Weller families,
Do you know who the PTO is or what it does? The PTO is a group of parents and teachers who work collaboratively to support the teachers and students at Steuart Weller. We host events to build community and school spirit. We raise money for projects that will enhance the school experience (i.e. technology, funding field trips, etc.). And, we serve as a bridge between teachers and families.
If you'd like to help with various projects, please email infoswespto@gmail.com to get connected.
The next PTO meeting is on November 12th at 6:30 pm. This meeting will feature Dr. Lindsey Hoskins, a family therapist who specializes in bullying awareness, prevention, and healing. Nearly 20% of children will experience bullying at some point in their school experience -- verbal, physical, social, or cyberbullying -- with potentially serious consequences. Learn more about this important, relevant issue and strategies you can develop as a parent to help your student navigate and thrive.
We are still looking for room parents! Room parents work with their student's teacher to coordinate parent involvement, provide support, and act as a liaison between the teacher and classroom families. If you are interested in becoming a room parent, please email Joel at Joel.Bednoski@gmail.com.
How do you feel about the 7:30 am school start? A group of families has started a petition to LCPS to push back the Steuart Weller start time, as it used to be until fall 2022. There is strength in numbers. Contact for access to the petition. infoswespto@gmail.com
Note, the petition was not sponsored by Steuart Weller and there is no pressure to sign.
Please consider financially supporting the Weller PTO. We are a nonprofit organization and do not receive any county funding. Remember that many employers will match your contribution!
The Weller PTO relies on parents like you. We are always looking for new volunteers: event planning, fundraising, community engagement, technology, etc. If you have any questions about the PTO or would like to join the team, please email infoswespto@gmail.com.
We hope to see you throughout the month ahead!
Supporting Social Emotional Growth at Home
Here are questions you can ask your children about what will be presented this week in their daily SEL lessons
Grades K - 5
- Students will review small, medium, and large problems and discuss steps for working through problems.
- Discuss a common problem that your student faces at home. Ask them: How might you solve this problem?
Picture Re-Takes on November 11
If your child missed getting their school picture taken, or perhaps you were not happy with the school picture, re-takes are scheduled for November 11 in the morning.
