Assignment Notebooks and Power School

  • Students at Hickory Creek are expected to record homework in their Assignment notebooks daily. This is a great tool to communicate with loved ones at home what type of work your child may have. We encourage caregivers to ask your child about their assignment notebook each night.

  • Power School is wonderful way to stay in touch with how your child is doing in each class. Parents are encouraged to check Power School periodically for updates. Teachers will be sure to update grades bi-weekly.

A new school year is underway, and the library will be welcoming students back in the first week of September. I’m excited to see returning seventh and eighth graders and to welcome sixth graders and new students to the district.

The library is open every day after school until 3:15. Students are welcome to stay and do homework, read, or just hang out as long as parents are aware, and they have a ride home.

From Our Social Work Team From Our Social Work Team

As we start the new school year, students will meet a lot of new peers in their classes, during lunch, and in after school activities. here are some tips for initiating new friendships.

  • Join a club or activity! Spending time in places where there are people you’d like to get to know. When you meet someone new, be genuine and amiable by making friendly conversation. To start a conversation, ask a question, introduce yourself, or give a compliment.

  • Ask questions to find commonality with your new friend and listen attentively when he or she answers.-When you discover a shared interest or hobby, suggest doing something together.

  • Try not to come on too strong by being overbearing, or by texting and calling too often. Be patient and let the friendship develop naturally over time.

  • Remember, it takes time for people to trust one another and be open, so take things slowly.

HCMS Advisory HCMS Advisory

6th Grade Advisory

This month, students will focus on developing essential executive functioning skills, including organization, planning, time management, self-control, and attention. Tiger Time lessons will help students learn strategies for staying on top of assignments and responsibilities. Students will also participate in team-building activities and learn how to effectively use school resources such as PowerSchool and ClassLink. These skills will support academic success throughout the year.

7th Grade Advisory

As we kick off the 26-27 school year, 7th grade students will be going over executive functioning strategies on Tuesday's and Thursday's of this month in order to build organizational strategies they can use for the remainder of the year. On Monday's, students will watch a Tiger TV or This Week at the Creek episode to inform them on what's happening at HC! Wednesday's will be dedicated to W.I.N. (What I Need) Days, and Friday's will be Team Building days. There will also be a severe weather drill and fire drill to prepare students and staff in the event we need to use one. Can't believe we are back to start a new school year, we hope you all had a wonderful summer!

8th Grade Advisory

Throughout September, students will dive into executive functioning skills that help prepare them for high school and beyond. The lessons will focus on organization, task initiation, time management, self-control, attention, working memory, and metacognition.
