From Principal Kennedy

Hello,

November is the National Month of gratitude. I am an advocate for the importance of gratitude everyday. I love that there is a month to bring special attention to it. Research has proved that our human brains are wired to go to the negative. The same for our students. As adults, I think it is so important to model for our children how to use the power of gratitude on a daily basis, especially in challenging situations.

The Benefit of Gratitude for Middle Schoolers

  • Improves Mood
  • Increases social connection
  • Helps reduce suicidal ideation
  • Improves sleep
  • Decrease stress
  • Support physical (heart) health
  • Decrease envy
  • Increases hopefulness
  • and so much more...

So as we celebrate the National Month of Gratitude, how can you bring the practice of gratitude into your home and model for your middle school student?

With gratitude,

Katy Kennedy

Winter Weather is Here⛄ Winter Weather is Here⛄

zoom_out_map

Even though the weather outside can be frightful, WMS students are outside for recess before school and lunch recess. Please encourage your student to dress for the weather. Students do not stay inside if they don't have their winter weather clothing.

ALL students will need to be inside if the real feel is 0 degrees or below. Often times, the real feel for recess before school may be 0 degrees below and will often warm up to have outside lunch recess.

It is always best to be prepared to go outside.

Friday School Friendly Reminders

Friday School is a required day of attendance for students who grades lower than a "D" in any class at 9:00AM on the first day of the week.

All students are welcome to attend if they want support in their academic work from our staff. However, students with lower than a "D" in any course the previous Monday are REQUIRED to come.

On Mondays, or first day of the week, we notify students and parents/guardians. We notify parents/guardians of students who are REQUIRED to attend through Infinite Campus (only), using the contact information provided to the Main Office through updated paperwork. If you are not receiving these notifications, please contact the WMS Main Office. In the communication to parents, there is an option to sign up for busing. Bussing requests MUST be filled out by the end of the day on Tuesday. If you need to cancel bussing, please call the Bus Barn to notify them. Students are informed by note during their 7th period if they are required to attend.

Here is what is excellent about Friday School! A student has till the end of the school day on the THURSDAY to raise his/her grade(s) in the classes that REQUIRE the student to attend Friday School. If the student goes to the Main Office, gets a Friday School sign-off form, has the course(s) signed off by the teacher, AND returns it to the office, we will remove the student from the REQUIRED attendance list. Woot! Woot! That is to be celebrated!

Don't hesitate to contact the Main Office if you have any questions regarding Friday School.

Infinite Campus- Critical Communication Infinite Campus- Critical Communication

The district uses Infinite Campus as it's main form of communication to parents/guardians. The contact information in Infinite Campus is updated each year with the information that is provided on the Student Information sheet.

If you have had a change in contact information or do not have an email or a current email on file, you are missing lots of important information. Please reach out to the WMS Main Office as we want you to be informed on all things WMS.
