Message from the Superintendent

The countdown to the first day of school continues. We are fine-tuning our bus routes to ensure safe, reliable service, something we all count on. The new routes will be ready for you next week. Find the bus stop that works best for your family and prepare your student to ride the bus. You may even see buses on the road as our drivers learn the new routes.

We also have more facility projects to share. Some are higher profile than others, and all are important for the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community. Our facilities team works hard. We are grateful to them that we get to come back to new and improved school buildings.

First Verify Your Student's Info

Before you do anything else, please be sure to verify your student's information. All students who are enrolled for the 2022-2023 school year need their information updated by September 9, 4 p.m. The only exceptions are students who are new to LOSD; information is verified during their initial registration process.

Log into ParentVUE and access the Register/Verify tab. If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact your student's school. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school.

Set Up Meal Accounts, Applications

The universal free meals waiver with USDA expired on June 30, 2022. That means starting this school year LOSD will be serving meals under the free, reduced, and paid categories.

Please be sure to set up your student's meal account or apply for free/reduced meals. Look for Meals under Find it Fast on district and school website homepages for account setup and application information, and more.

Be Ready to Ride the Bus

Bus routes are designed to ensure safe, reliable service with the drivers we have for the start of the 2022-2023 school year. The new routes will be posted next week on the district and school websites under Find It Fast / Transportation. Students eligible for special education transportation services will receive your access points soon thereafter. Things to note as you find your stop for the new school year:

Walking zones. Students who live farther than 1 mile from their resident elementary school and 1.5 miles away from their resident middle or high school are eligible for transportation services. However, typically service is provided closer to avoid walkers and bikers crossing major thoroughfares.

Bus registration is not necessary. Routes and access points -- or what most call bus stops -- were designed based on historical patterns and current student residences. Ridership in LOSD fluctuates considerably during the first few weeks of school and between mornings and afternoons throughout the year. If ridership requires rebalancing, STA will adjust routes and possibly add more buses once more drivers come on board.

Help prepare your child to ride the bus. Select the stop that works best for your family.

  • Visit your bus stop before school starts to familiarize your child with it.
  • Look for visual clues to help them identify when it is time to get off the bus.
  • Students in primary grades will be given luggage tags on their backpacks to help school staff, drivers, and students remember their routes and stops.

Kindergarteners need an adult to greet them off the bus. Bus drivers are obligated to return unattended kindergarteners to school for safekeeping. Please be sure to be at your child’s stop ahead of time to help keep the bus moving for all onboard.

Students in the PreK program require parent/guardian transportation. The program starts and ends 30 minutes later than the rest of the school.

Student Transportation of America provides bus transportation for LOSD. Our bus drivers look forward to getting to know your child and being a part of their fantastic school experience. You will see them on the road practicing their routes for the next few weeks.

Suicide Prevention: Call or Text 988

As of July 2022, dialing 988 from anywhere in the nation officially routes calls and texts to the National Suicide Prevention Network. Advantages of this three-digit code include:
  • Easy to remember
  • Fast access to help
  • Focus on safety & de-escalation
  • Raises awareness and reduces the stigma of calling for help
  • Avoids police/ambulance response unless necessary

Fentanyl & Opioids: What You Need to Know

Important information about Fentanyl & Opioids is available on the Safety & Security section of the district website. Please feel free to drop off your unused supplies in a collection bin located in the reception area of the LOSD Administration Building, 2455 Country Club Road, Lake Oswego (a single-story building on Lake Oswego High School campus next to the district pool). Community Level: Medium

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) looks at the combination of three metrics — new COVID-19 admissions per 100,000 population in the past 7 days, the percent of staffed inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 patients, and total new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population in the past 7 days — to determine the COVID-19 community levels. Using this data, the COVID-19 community level is classified as low, medium, or high. Clackamas County is currently in medium (yellow). Click here to follow the CDC COVID-19 Data Tracker Weekly Review.
