It's not just our clocks that are springing forward as we start the month of March. With a little luck and a lot of hard work, our schools and students continue to shine like gold in accomplishments across the district.
Don't forget to change those clocks on Sunday, and check out a few of the many February highlights below!

Mike Page from the Weather Channel joined our fifth grade last week and discussed the important work of a meteorologist and how he uses science to predict the weather. The students had a ton of questions- which says a lot about New England's weather.
Grade 5 was excited to participate in their first field trip in a long time to the WHS Planetarium. Pictured is Mr. Richard talking about the sun, the moon, and the Earth.

Seach Elementary School
On Tuesday, February 14, Seach educators deepened the conversation during the second of three workshops about what it means to be a district committed to being an anti-bias, inclusive learning community. This workshop focused on anti-racist practices and racial identity. Leaning into the work, members from the Seach community are participating in the Lincoln Public Schools 21-Day anti-racism, inclusion, diversity, and equity (AIDE) Challenge. It began on Monday, February 13 but it is not too late to join. LPS has made everything open source and the team has curated articles, blogs, videos, podcasts, etc., around a different AIDE topic each day. You can commit to a short article or a more lengthy content option; there are several links for each day that you can choose.

Shout out to our Culinary Team!
A huge shout out to Ms. Mitchell and Mr. Teehan for leading our culinary students in catering the A4LE architectural tour. The Architects and Mayor Hedlund were wowed by our students hors d'oeuvres.
Students from Mrs. Culhane's class have settled in their new home at the MWC School Store. Staff can order refreshments to pick up at the store on Friday. While at Abigail Adams the students traveled with their Wildcart to deliver coffee, tea, and snacks to staff. Sorry kids this is a staff-only perk. However, anyone can stop by for a friendly smile!
On January 30, 2023, the Weymouth Historical Commission presented a framed archival print of the “Anti-Slavery Picnic at Weymouth Landing” to members of the School Administration. WHC Chair James Clarke and Vice-Chair Cathy Torrey presented the print to Superintendent Robert Wargo, Assistant Superintendent Melanie Curtin, and Chapman Middle School Principal Matthew Meehan.
The painting depicts an anti-slavery gathering at the birthplace Maria Weston Chapman in Weymouth Landing. The Weston Estate, Maria’s home, is now part of Weston Park and the Tufts Library in Weymouth Landing. The painting has a direct connection to Maria Weston Chapman and her sisters, who were active in the anti-slavery movement in Massachusetts. The middle school is named for Maria, who helped form the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society in 1834 and edited William Lloyd Garrison’s publication The Liberator.
"On behalf of Weymouth Public Schools, I would like to thank the Weymouth Historical Commission for presenting this important painting to our district," Superintendent Robert Wargo said. "Chapman Middle School strives to promote creativity, critical thinking, confidence, and collaboration in an effort to foster real-world problem solvers, active citizens, and lifelong learners. The depiction of an anti-slavery gathering at the birthplace of Maria Weston Chapman is incredibly profound. Maria Weston Chapman embodied every pillar Chapman Middle School was built upon, laying the foundation as a fierce abolitionist and determined activist who fought courageously by utilizing her confidence, collaborative spirit, and problem-solving skills until slavery was outlawed. I hope every student at Chapman Middle School, and in our entire district, takes the opportunity to view and appreciate this painting as a tremendous reminder of all they are capable of."
