Principal's Message
Dear Hiteon Community,
We hope you had a wonderful and restful winter break! We are so excited to welcome our students back to Hiteon Elementary for the start of an exciting second semester of learning and growth. As we jump back into our routine, we need your help ensuring every child starts their day on time and is ready to learn. School begins promptly at 7:45 AM, which means students need to be in the door by 7:44 AM to give them time to get to their classroom and settle down before the first lesson begins. Being on time is crucial because it helps students feel calm and prepared, minimizes classroom disruptions, and allows teachers to start instruction on schedule, ultimately setting a positive tone for the entire day.
Beyond punctuality, regular attendance is one of the biggest factors in a child's academic success. When students attend school consistently, they benefit by building a strong foundation of knowledge, developing essential social skills through peer interaction, and maintaining strong connections with their teachers and classmates. This year, Hiteon's school-wide goal is to achieve 90% attendance, and we can only reach this milestone if every single student shows up regularly. Please prioritize having your student at school every day unless they are truly ill.
Finally, we are thrilled about the wonderful opportunities coming up to bring our Hiteon community together! Please mark your calendars for Dining for Dollars at Chuck E. Cheese on January 23rd and Bingo Night on January 30th, with a special Social Emotional Night planned for February. We truly love having our community join us to learn and laugh together.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making this a successful school year!

Why 7:44? Because at 7:45 am, the learning fun begins! Being in the classroom by 7:44 means your child is ready to roll when the bell rings. Every Minute Matters! Arrive on time = start the day with a smile. No rushing, no missing morning fun. Builds habits that help kids shine for a lifetime.
Tips to Beat the Clock: Pick out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. Set an earlier “leave the house” time than you think. Try to be on campus by 7:35 am for a calm start.
Please note that the doors will close at 7:45 a.m., and students arriving after this time will be counted as tardy. Let’s make mornings smooth and start every day strong!

Immunization Exclusion Day - February 25th
State law requires that all children in public and private schools, preschools, Head Start and certified child care facilities have up-to-date immunizations or have a medical or nonmedical exemption.
Parents/guardians will receive a letter in early February if their child’s immunization record shows that they have not received the required vaccinations. Children won’t be able to attend school or child care starting February 25, if their records on file show missing immunizations.
The Beaverton High School-Based Health Center and the Merlo Station Campus-Based Health Center are both resources for BSD families to get immunizations.

Hiteon Culture Night February 19th
YOU'RE INVITED TO HOST A BOOTH!!
On Thursday, February 19th, Hiteon will be hosting a celebration of cultures and belonging at our first school Culture Night! All Hiteon families, teachers and staff are invited to participate by hosting a booth at the event. Hosts will be assigned a table at the event to showcase their cultural heritage and will be provided a trifold poster board for display. Booths may highlight traditional dress and clothing, country or community flags, music and musical instruments, popular sports and games, currency, foods and cuisine, and more! The booth design and presentation is up to each host and should celebrate and uplift the shared community or culture. Please note that political, religious, or inflammatory displays or verbiage will not be permitted - this event is a celebration of diversity and belonging and an opportunity to share our heritage and traditions with friends in our school community.
How to sign up

Volunteer Check-In Requirements
It has come to our attention that there’s a need for clarification regarding school volunteers and whether they are required to sign in through the Raptor kiosk. In short, the answer is YES.
While volunteers may use the Raptor Safe app to sign up for events in advance, this action does not constitute official check-in upon arrival. Signing up through the app simply indicates intent to participate, it does not sign them into the event. This distinction is critical for two key reasons:
Mandatory Sex Offender Screening: The real-time background check is only triggered when a volunteer checks in at the on-site Raptor tablet kiosk. Without this step, the required screening doesn’t occur.
Emergency Accountability: If a volunteer is not signed in through the kiosk, the school has no record of their presence on campus. This poses a serious risk in the event of an emergency where accurate headcount and location tracking are essential.
Every volunteer must physically check in at the kiosk each time that they arrive on campus. This is the only way to ensure compliance with safety protocols and to maintain a secure environment for our students and staff.
If you haven't done your background check to volunteer at Hiteon, you can start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
