Dear Blacklick Families,

Report Cards for Quarter 1:

Report cards for quarter 1 were sent home with students on Friday. Please make sure to check your child's backpack. You can also review the report card on the Parent Portal. Take time to celebrate your child’s growth and effort! We kindly ask that you sign the envelope and return it to school but, you may keep the report card at home for your records.

Read teacher comments carefully, as they often give the clearest picture of your child’s strengths and areas for growth. Talk with your child about what they’re proud of and what goals they want to set next. Keep the conversation positive and focused on learning.

Here are a few suggestions for things you can do at home to support your child's learning:

- Read nightly with your child to foster a love of reading.

- Have them work on Lexia or DreamBox to reinforce their skills.

If you have questions about your child's report card, please reach out to your child’s teacher—they’re eager to partner with you in supporting your child’s success!

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at 614-759-5100 or by email at grovesk@gjps.org.

Respectfully,

Kristen Groves

Playground/Recess Donations Playground/Recess Donations

Doing a little fall clean-out? If you have any extra playground balls (kickballs, basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, etc.) gathering dust in your garage, we’d love to take them off your hands! Our students would greatly appreciate the extras during recess. Gently used or new donations can be dropped off in the front office. Thank you for your support!

PE in 3rd Grade

Students are working on soccer skills and small sided soccer games. The emphasis is on more experienced students sharing their knowledge of the sport with their classmates when developing skills of dribbling and passing. During the small sided soccer games the students are encouraged to use the skills previously practiced.

Library in 3rd Grade

Third graders had an overview of genres, focusing a bit on the mystery genre this month. Now we have been working through some lessons on Digital Citizenship. We talked about being safe online and how to make effective passwords. We will do more work on this throughout the year, as we balance that with the books we read too.

Naglieri (NNAT) - Grade 5 and Grade 2 Naglieri (NNAT) - Grade 5 and Grade 2

Each year, around this time, students in our district are administered a cognitive ability test in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code 3301-51-15.

Students in grades 2 and 5 will take the Naglieri Nonverbal Abilities Test (NNAT) assessment during the month of November, and results are expected to be shared with families in December. Our grade 2 students will take this assessment on November 5 and our grade 5 students will take this assessment on November 12.

This is a standardized test given to many students across the country that measures reasoning abilities. The results of this test provides families and teachers with information that can be added to the overall classroom picture/profile of students’ ability, thereby helping to inform instructional decisions.
