Better Together: Start With Hello Week
Start with Hello is an important social and emotional learning program developed out of the Sandy Hook tragedy. The program is dedicated to teaching students to be more socially aware of their peers. As children develop we want them to learn how to identify a student in need of a friend and act in a kind and compassionate manner. Click or see the attached picture for details of each day and what do wear.
Take Responsibility: Discipline Over Default
This week students learned about the difference between making a disciplined (Above The Line) response versus a default (Below The Line) response. We know that our students’ brains are not fully developed, and therefore, their ability to control their impulses is still under construction!
By teaching students R-Factor we help them focus on what they can control and how to stay “disciplined” in their actions. We use words like intentional and on purpose when describing how we want students to respond to events, rather than being resistant or impulsive. While we know we all make mistakes, the more we can control our responses the more likely we are to achieve the outcomes we want.
