Dear OMS Community,

This week is national school counselor appreciation week! Our school counselors and school adjustment counselors work with our students, staff, and families to support our students throughout middle school. We celebrated our counselors throughout the week this week with breakfast, treats, and surprises. Thank you to Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Blaney, Mrs. Brookshire, Mrs. Cusack, Mr. Cronin, and Mr. Needham for all that you do!

Thank you,

Katrina Crowley

Heart Health Wellness Week

We are partnering with the American Heart Association to celebrate Heart Health Wellness week next week (Feb. 10 - 14). Students will participate in activities in Knight Time Advisory focused on Heart Health Wellness.

Knight of Excellence

Save the Date! Our annual Knight of Excellence is on Thursday, April 10th from 6:30 - 8pm. This is a full school open house showcase where student work is displayed throughout the building. At the secondary level, the Knight of Excellence occurs in place on a second parent-teacher conference.

Grade 8 Class Day

  • What is it? Grade 8 Class Day is a day to celebrate our 8th graders completion of middle school. Grade 8 students have fun activities in the morning. Families are invited to join us for a Promotion Ceremony where we celebrate students' completion of middle school. Each student is allowed two guests for this ceremony. Later at night, students have a Grade 8 Dance. More information and details about Class Day will be emailed home to Grade 8 families in the Spring.
  • When is it? Our Grade 8 Class Day takes place the day before the last day of school. Currently, the last day of school is scheduled for June 17th which means Class Day would fall on June 16th. If we end up having snow days this year, Class Day will be moved to whatever day falls before the last day of school. The Promotion Ceremony takes place at noon.

Students of the Month Students of the Month

As part of our school's PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) program, five students on each team are recognized as Students of the Month for demonstrating traits of readiness, responsibility, and respect. Each winner receives a certificate and a golden ticket (worth 5 tickets) which they can redeem for a prize on Ticket Tuesdays.

Congratulations to all of our January Students of the Month!

Many thanks to Justice Thomas S. Kaplanes, Associate Justice of Boston Municipal Court, who spoke to the OMS eighth graders about the make-up, functions, and impact of the judicial branch and rights and responsibilities of citizens today! Grade 8 students all take U.S. Government and Civics as one of their core classes.

Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Esty's Reading Lab Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Esty's Reading Lab

Mrs. Esty's 7th and 8th grade Reading Lab classes have been busy researching famous authors. It was interesting learning about the authors' families, schooling, awards won, and books written.

Superintendent Student Advisory Group Superintendent Student Advisory Group

This school year Superintendent Dr. Baeta is continuing to meet with his superintendent student advisory council at OMS. He meets with students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 a few times throughout the year. He is able to hear directly from students and get their ideas on what is working for them, what we can do better, and areas that need attention.
