Grant Deadline is Today, November 1st (NEW POST)

Today, November 1st, is the last day to apply for a classroom grant. If you apply, be sure to let Ellyn know so you can receive your violets.

ADK Month (UPDATED)

In addition to observing ADK month by attending the Founders' Day banquet, ADK was also promoted by the delivery of Skinny Syrups to Seventh Ward Elementary in Denham Springs on behalf of ETA chapter. The syrups were set up at the school's coffee bar along with information about Alpha Delta Kappa and our chapter. It's not too late to celebrate ADK at your school. If you do something, make sure to send a picture and description to Ellyn, so that she can record your violets and it can be included in our report to the state and national office. Below is a flyer that you may want to use.

Cheers for Pam (NEW POST)

Let's give a big cheer to our own, Pam Hughes! She has been nominated for an Excellence in Education Award. According to alphadeltakappa.org, the "Excellence in Education Award recognizes members of Alpha Delta Kappa for their outstanding contributions to education. To be eligible, the nominee must be an active member and be actively engaged in the education profession and be under contract in teaching, administration or some specialized field of education. Nominated by a colleague or parent, nominees’ adjudication is based on professional dedication, knowledge, skills, professional achievement and success, school/community collaboration, contributions to the educational process and active involvement in Alpha Delta Kappa." We are so proud of Pam and hopes she gets selected!

Sisters Helping Sisters Project (UPDATED)

We are planning a fall project to help the Capital Area Family Violence Intervention Center. They are in need of basic toiletries and also towels. We are going to fill like new Ipsy bags with sample size essentials such as toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, floss, small comb, etc. The bags are approximately 7.5 x 4 inches. We have about 40 bags that we can fill. The center will gladly take any extra supplies or full size items that won't fit into the bags, so if you prefer to donate full size items or if you can't find sample size items, full size will be fine. They are also in need of new bath towels. We will assemble the toiletry sets and place with a towel at the November 11 meeting. If you have any questions, call or text Stacey at 225-963-4394.

Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank

At every meeting, each sister is expected to wear her Alpha Delta Kappa badge. If you forget to wear it, you should donate at least $1.00 to the "pot", which will be donated to the food bank in addition to donations from members that will be collected in November and March.

OLOL Children's Hospital (UPDATED)

We raised $150 for the Children's Hospital by raffling a gift basket at Founders' Day. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the basket and/or bought a ticket and to Debbie for putting it together. We will also raise funds for the hospital with a gift card tree raffle at the state convention and from the proceeds of our annual Christmas auction.

Christmas Auction (NEW POST)

Our annual Christmas auction is coming up next month. You will need to bring at least a $25 gift (item to be auctioned) or bring $25 to spend. Of course, more is welcome! You may bring as many gifts as you would like and spend as much money as possible! :) This is always fun and entertaining and a chance to grab a few Christmas gifts, home decor items, etc. All proceeds will go to the OLOL Children's Hospital.
