MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Students and Families,
As we move into the month of October I’d like to share what a pleasure it is to lead an exceptional school of extraordinary educators and amazing students. This year with the implementation of the Yondr pouches we are seeing students truly “lock in” at school. Students are more engaged both academically and socially in class. Families, ask your students how this new cell phone policy is going for them and how it has impacted their school experience.
This morning there was a car accident on Woodward and 53rd Ave. The students involved in the accident are ok. An ambulance, fire truck, and police officer arrived right away to help with the situation. We know this is a very busy street in the morning and after school. We will be working with district leadership and city officials to make improvements to increase safety on Woodward moving forward. Please drive slowly and cautiously on Woodward. Pedestrians, also be careful before crossing the street ensuring that cars see you.
Today is the FHS Tailgate before the football game against Lincoln. The tailgate starts at 5:30pm and the game starts at 7pm. Reminder - do not bring backpacks or large bags. We ask you to leave them at home or in your car.
Join us in honoring Orange Shirt Day on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, to recognize the impact of residential and boarding schools on Native peoples and affirm that Every Child Matters. All Franklin students and staff are encouraged to wear orange shirts to stand in solidarity with Native students and families.
Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

ICE Protocols from PPS
We know that recent national events and news about immigration enforcement have created real fear and uncertainty in our community. We have heard from many families who are worried about their safety, their children’s well-being, and what role the school district will play in protecting them.
We want to be clear: our schools are safe spaces for every student. Portland Public Schools is committed to providing an environment where students can learn, grow, and feel supported regardless of their immigration status.
Please read the following information, outlined in Board Resolution No. 5363, Rights of Undocumented Students and Protocols for ICE Access to Schools.

NEW: Join the SE Snowboard Team!
No snowboarding experience is necessary!
The snowboarding season runs January 7th through late February, with state competitions occurring in early March, 2026. Practices are every Wednesday at Mt. Hood Meadows. A bus will leave Cleveland High School at 2:00pm and will return at approximately 10:30pm each week. There is also a bus for Meadows on many weekends, either Saturday or Sunday for competitions.
Competitions take place on the weekends for 4 events: Border Cross, Banked Slalom, Slopestyle, and Half Pipe. Riders do not have to compete but are encouraged to give it a try. Remember, no experience is necessary; lots of riders have started out their snowboarding journeys with the team! We want our riders to enjoy the amazing winter atmosphere and awesome fun of snowboarding on the mountain.
