Thank you for allowing A2 Virtual+ to be part of your child’s educational journey and for your patience as we begin the 2025–2026 school year. The start of each term is always our busiest time, as we move from having no students enrolled in early August to now supporting 1,203 students in 1,616 classes. This growth reflects the trust you place in us and is made possible by the intentional and tireless efforts of our entire team.

Our work continues to be guided by the A2 Virtual+ mission: to provide students access to online and extended learning options that help them develop a personalized learning path.

In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find important information about:

  • Proctoring requirements and available support options

  • Weekly attendance expectations in online courses

  • The upcoming Count Day on Wednesday, October 1st

  • How to opt-in to the Securly Parent Portal for managing device use

  • An overview of the upcoming Career Technical Education (CTE) millage vote

I look forward to a great school year and will share my next update in early October.

Your partner in online learning,

Principal Lauer

Proctoring Information Proctoring Information

To earn credit for each course, students must complete two proctored activities per class.

  • The names of the required activities are posted in each student’s Schoology classroom.

  • Proctoring schedules, locations, and sign-up links are available in the A2 Virtual+ Proctoring and Building Support Schoology classrooms.

  • For 5th-grade students, support is not building-specific since they come from more than 20 schools. All 5th graders will use the general “A2V Proctoring and Building Support” Schoology classroom.

  • Students must complete their proctored activities using their district device.

Additional Option:
Students may also attend proctoring at Skyline High School Media Center on Tuesday evenings, 4:00–7:00 PM.

  • No sign-up required.

  • Students arriving before 6:00 PM may complete their proctored activity.

  • Proctoring at Skyline began September 9th.

A2 Virtual+ Calendar of Events

Weekly Attendance Weekly Attendance

Attendance in online courses works differently than in traditional classes. In our program, attendance is defined as a weekly two-way interaction with the teacher, completed through a designated attendance activity in Schoology every Wednesday.

  • If a student does not complete the Wednesday activity, they are marked as UNV (Unverified Absence) in PowerSchool.

  • Students may still complete the activity later in the week (through Tuesday), but late submissions may affect their grade.

  • Once completed, teachers update attendance with a CA (Completed Attendance) code.

Attendance is recorded every week of the term.

Online Count Day Assignment - Wednesday, October 1st Online Count Day Assignment - Wednesday, October 1st

Count Day is when all Michigan public schools confirm student enrollment for state funding. On Wednesday, October 1st, every student must complete a Count Day Assignment in each class.

  • Assignments will be clearly labeled in Schoology and will count toward the student’s grade.

  • Students may complete the assignment anytime between 12:01 AM and 11:59 PM on October 1st.

  • On Thursday, October 2nd, teachers will mark attendance with the LA (Lesson Assignment) code for students who completed on time.

  • Students who miss October 1st will have 10 additional days to submit their assignment.

  • Starting October 2nd, our team will reach out to families of students who have not completed their assignments.

Your support ensures every student is counted and that A2 Virtual+ receives the resources needed to continue offering online learning.

Securly Parent Portal - How To Op-In Securly Parent Portal - How To Op-In

Are you interested in managing your child’s internet use on their AAPS device (e.g., YouTube blocking, limiting non-educational games, setting time restrictions)?

In Ann Arbor Public Schools, we utilize a cloud-based web filter called Securly to keep students safe on their district-issued device. To help you monitor their child's online activity at home, AAPS offers the free Securly Home app. This application allows web-based filtering and parental controls on district-issued devices at home. Parents may set rules to allow or disallow certain websites, pause the internet connection to the device as desired, and receive weekly usage reports.

How to Opt-In:

  1. Read about the AAPS Securly - 25-26 Parent Portal Opt-In opportunity available to all families.

  2. Sign-up on the Securly Parent Portal Program Form.

  3. Look for an email from Securly when your account is ready to go (it can take up to 48 hours to receive).

  4. Download the Securly Home App from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

  5. Navigate the App to explore different views into your child's online safety and check out the AAPS Securly Parent Portal FAQs.

CTE Millage Information CTE Millage Information

On November 4, 2025, voters residing within the Washtenaw Intermediate School District’s service area will be asked to consider 1 mill tax to help expand PreK-12 Career Technical Education (CTE) in local schools. CTE helps PreK-12 students learn by doing, and combines classroom learning with hands-on experiences and real-world skills. It helps students find what brings them joy, learn why they’re learning what they learn, and it can open doors to college, careers, and beyond.

If a CTE millage is approved by voters in November, families with preschool, elementary, middle and high school students would benefit from new programs and expansion of existing programs. To learn more about the proposal, visit www.washtenawisd.org/ctemillage.
