Dear Families,

It was another great week here at Sells Middle School! A huge thank you to our PTO Teacher Appreciation Committee for helping us celebrate the incredible staff we have at Sells. Our teachers dedicate countless hours to supporting, celebrating, advocating for, and helping our students grow each and every day. It was a special week filled with smiles, gratitude, and well-deserved recognition.

A special shout out to Grayson Suckow! He won the Sells-A-Bration raffle and was our Principal today! Grayson and I worked as a team to address all the daily tasks. He is a true leader and I learned a lot from him 😊

The next few weeks will be very busy and filled with many exciting activities and events. Please see below for all of the details.

Have a wonderful weekend!

With ROCK Pride,

Katy O'Neal

Principal

Safety & Supervision

Each student traveling to Washington, D.C. will receive a Sells D.C. ID badge. On the back of the ID will be important contact numbers for Sells Middle School, Prodigy Student Travel, Mrs. O'Neal, and Mr. Masterson. Families may call these numbers at any time during the trip.

Students may carry their phones throughout the trip. In addition, students will be assigned to chaperone groups, and chaperones will conduct frequent check-ins with the students in their groups. Students are expected to remain with their groups at all times and are never permitted to travel alone.

For overnight safety, security guards will be assigned to each hotel floor. Washington, D.C. also has a strong security presence throughout the city including Capitol Police, Park Rangers, and additional security personnel.

Clothing & Packing - The Weather Forecast is Rain on Wednesday & Thursday

  • Pack comfortable shoes — sneakers are strongly preferred due to the amount of walking. Bringing two pairs of comfortable shoes is a great idea.

  • Dress for the weather in comfortable, casual, school-appropriate clothing.

  • Dress in layers: shorts, sweatpants, short-sleeve shirts, long-sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, and a lightweight jacket are all recommended. D.C. weather can be chilly in the morning, warm during the day, and cool again at night.

  • Students should bring:

    • One suitcase-style bag that will go under the bus

    • One backpack/carry-on bag for the bus

  • Bringing a blanket and pillow for the bus ride is also recommended.

Food & Drinks

  • All meals and drinks are included with the trip.

  • Students may bring snacks for the bus ride and hotel, but please NO NUTS.

  • Drinks are allowed on the bus (water, juice, pop, etc.) as long as they have lids.

Money

Students do not need spending money, as the trip is all-inclusive. However, students may want to bring money for souvenirs such as hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, or other memorabilia. Approximately $50 is more than enough.

8th Grade Chromebook Collection 8th Grade Chromebook Collection

On Wednesday, May 27 all eighth-grade students will turn in their Chromebooks and chargers. They will receive a new Chromebook and charger during 9th Grade Orientation in the fall. By doing this, we can ensure that the students are equipped with their Chromebooks on the first day of the 2026-2027 school year.

IMPORTANT: If you are celebrating Eid or will not be here that day, please bring your Chromebook and case to the library on the last day before you leave.

Location: 1919 Auditorium

What to bring: Eighth graders are required to bring their Chromebook with all personal stickers removed. (The only stickers remaining on the Chromebooks should be the DCS barcode/serial number and the nametag). If the student’s Chromebook is in repair, the student should bring the loaner that was issued to them. Both case and Chromebook need to be returned to the school on this date. Please note students who do not return a case with their Chromebook may be subject to additional charges.

Your financial support (as well as signing up - and following through on your signup - to bring donations) allows us do to these things! Without you, none of the above can happen. If you can't make a donation, who do you know that might be able to? Do you know any businesses that might like to make a donation? We will definitely give them recognition! If you use Venmo, you can make a donation to @SellsMSPTO.
