Leighton Update
September 4, 2026
Dear Leighton Families,
It has been a very eventful week here at Leighton! We are certainly thankful to have our air conditioning fully repaired and back up and running, which made all the difference as we navigated a week filled with both hot temperatures and rainy weather. Today, our students with last names starting with A–L did a tremendous job putting forth their best effort on their school-based assessments, resulting in a very productive day across both their Math and ELA classrooms. We look forward to repeating this success with our students with last names M–Z on Tuesday, September 8th. Overall, our students have settled beautifully into our classroom and building-wide Leighton routines while consistently demonstrating positive expected behaviors throughout the building. We are all so proud of how quickly and smoothly they have transitioned into the school year.
As you will read more information below we have rescheduled our school picture day to Wednesday, September 30th. Additionally, there is no school this Monday, September 7th due to the Labor Day holiday. Please enjoy the long weekend, and hopefully you are able to enjoy the Friday night football game tonight. Go Greenmen!
Sincerely,
Spencer Warders
Principal

Friday Night Football Game Expectation Reminder
A reminder, Friday night football games are school events. Please help us reinforce to students that activities like tag, "backyard football" and other forms of horseplay are not permitted, as the stadium is simply too crowded to accommodate these activities safely. If students are asked to stop and continue engaging in these activities, they will be required to sit with their parents or potentially leave the event. Thank you for partnering with us to keep these community events safe and enjoyable for everyone!
Final Forms Completion
The Aurora City Schools use Final Forms to complete necessary back-to-school paperwork and to send out important communication. Final Forms saves data from year-to-year so that you will never need to enter the same information twice. If at any time a phone number, email or other contact information changes we will get a notification that a change has been made, so please make updates when needed. Also, if you see a field in red, you will need to make these updates in the system. You will need to see all "green fields" to show that your Final Forms are up to date for the 26-27 school year. Please click the Final Forms image to take you to the login screen.

Counselors' Corner
Hello Leighton!
We hope you’re enjoying the sunshine! We wanted to focus this week on two supports we can share and provide to families.
Parenting Program: We’re happy to share a free opportunity for families to access the Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) — a trusted, research-based program that supports parents and caregivers in raising confident, healthy children.
Through this online program, you’ll find helpful strategies to:
Strengthen your connection with your child
Promote positive behaviors and routines
Respond to challenges in a calm, consistent way
Support your child’s growth and independence
Balance parenting with your own well-being
The program is self-paced and can be accessed anytime from a phone, tablet, or computer making it easy to fit into your schedule. To sign up, visit the Positive Parenting Program - Triple P site and scroll to the bottom to select “Free online course today.” We encourage you to take advantage of this helpful resource!
Financial Needs: Leighton Elementary partners with our PTO to assist families with financial needs. By reaching out via this form, phone, email, or in person, we can help with funds for Book Fairs, the Holiday Shop, holiday gifts, Thanksgiving “baskets,” winter clothing, yearbooks, school supplies, or any other need. Please don’t hesitate to contact us—simply let us know what you need, and we’ll connect you with resources.

Clinic Updates
- Please monitor your child for illness symptoms. If your child has a temperature greater than 100 they must stay home until they are fever free for 24 hrs without medication. For coughing, congestion and sore throat that are disruptive or not well contained, it is preferred they stay home until symptoms are decreased or your child has been evaluated by your physician.
- Students sent home from school with a fever also may not return to school until they are fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours. This means if your child was sent home on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. with a fever, he/she may not return to school until Thursday. If your child does return the next day, our school nurse will be calling for you to come to pick him/her up. Thank you for your support and efforts in this area.
- Please consider sending in a spare change of clothes for your student to keep in their locker in the event of spills, toileting accidents or muddy clothes.
- If a prescription or over-the-counter medication is needed to support your child during the school day, it must be accompanied by a physician/nurse practitioner signed document. Please reach out if you need a copy of these forms.
- Please remember we are a peanut and tree nut free school in the classrooms!
- Please contact our school nurse, Erika Harper at 330-562-2209 ext 3285 or eharper@aurora-schools.org with any questions related to illness or the clinic.
Lunch Menu and Accounts
You can track your child's lunch account by setting up your profile.
You may also send in cash or a check written out to the
"Aurora City Schools".
Smartphone and Electronic Device Policy Reminder
Below is Leighton's policy on cell phones and smart watches
Any watches (i.e. Apple/Smart Watches) should be used solely as a watch for the day. If they are found to be used as a cell phone (or using any Apps) they will be told to store it in their locker. If the watch is used improperly repeatedly, the administration will confiscate it, and parents will be asked to pick it up at school. The student will not be able to bring the device back to school. Students may come to the office where the secretary or school counselors can make a call home if necessary.
Transportation Information From Mrs. Wingler
If any student needs to be picked up or dropped off other than their home location, they MUST fill out an alternate bus stop form before we can transport and return to us by email, fax or dropping off at the office. That form is located in the same area as listed below on the webpage and is also included below.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. My email is cwingler@aurora-schools.org.
