Dolly Parton Day - September 25th (9 -2-5)
We aren't celebrating Dolly Parton simply because she is a famous singer. We are celebrating her because she has made literacy, imagination, generosity, and helping children a major part of her life's work.
Why is Warren Elementary School Celebrating Dolly Parton Day — September 25:
- She is a champion of children's literacy.
Dolly created the Imagination Library in 1995, providing free, high-quality books to young children regardless of their family's income. - She believes every child deserves access to books.
Her program was created around the idea that children should have books at home and the opportunity to develop a love of reading. - She makes reading exciting.
The Imagination Library isn't simply about giving children books—it is about creating excitement and joy around reading and helping families make reading part of everyday life. - She promotes imagination.
The name Imagination Library perfectly represents something schools want children to develop: the ability to imagine, create, dream, and think beyond what they already know. - She teaches children to dream big.
Dolly's foundation emphasizes “Dream More, Learn More, Care More and Be More.” Those are wonderful messages for everyone. - She demonstrates the importance of giving back.
Dolly has used her success to help children and communities. Her example gives schools an opportunity to teach students that success isn't just about what you achieve—it's also about what you do for others. - She shows that you don't have to come from wealth to make a difference.
Dolly grew up in a large, poor family in rural Tennessee. Her experiences helped shape her commitment to making books available to children who might not otherwise have them. - She honors the role of parents and families in literacy.
The Imagination Library encourages families to read together, reinforcing the idea that literacy doesn't stop when a child leaves school. - She is an excellent example of perseverance.
Dolly's life provides opportunities to talk with students about hard work, overcoming obstacles, believing in yourself, and continuing to pursue your dreams. - She celebrates being yourself.
Dolly has always embraced her unique personality, appearance, voice, and style. That can become a positive elementary message: You don't have to be like everyone else to be successful. - She connects literacy with opportunity.
Dolly's own father was unable to read and write, and that experience deeply influenced her desire to make literacy accessible to children. - Her work has had an enormous impact.
As of June 2026, the Imagination Library had gifted more than 325 million books and was distributing more than 3.5 million books each month. - She provided positive character-education connection.
A Dolly Parton Day should focus on:- Kindness

In September, Mrs. Pilewski, our school counselor, shares racial harmony lessons with all Warren students. These lessons focus on the concepts of how we all get our unique skin color (the sun + melanin + the skin color of our parents and ancestors), learning about other kids’ cultures, and not treating kids differently just because their skin color or culture is different than ours.
Please talk to your child about the racial harmony lesson taught in their classroom!
