Helping our students grow, succeed, and shine 🦉
Dear Parents and Families,
Spring is here, and April is a busy and exciting time at school! Our students are continuing to learn and grow each day, and we are preparing for upcoming STAAR testing for 3rd and 4th grade. This month, we’re focusing on confidence, perseverance, and healthy habits to help every child do their best.
Social-Emotional Focus: Confidence & Positive Thinking
We are encouraging students to:
-
Believe in themselves and their abilities
-
Use positive self-talk (“I can do this!”)
-
Keep trying, even when something feels challenging
You can support this at home by:
-
Praising effort, not just results
-
Talking about mistakes as learning opportunities
-
Encouraging your child to share their feelings
STAAR Testing Preparation Tips
STAAR testing is approaching for our upper elementary students. Here are simple ways to help your child feel prepared and confident:
1. Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Aim for 8–10 hours of sleep each night, especially before testing days.
2. Eat a Healthy Breakfast
A balanced breakfast helps with focus and energy. Avoid too much sugar.
3. Be On Time
Arriving at school on time helps your child start the day calm and ready.
4. Encourage a Positive Mindset đź’¬
Remind your child:
-
“Just do your best.”
-
“Take your time and check your work.”
-
“You are prepared!”
5. Practice Relaxation Strategies
Teach simple techniques like:
-
Deep breathing
-
Taking short mental breaks
-
Stretching
6. Limit Stress at Home
Keep routines consistent and avoid adding extra pressure. Confidence grows in calm environments.
