PCMS WeeklyUpdateSeptember 18, 2026

Good Afternoon PCMS Families!

Another great week in! We continue to see students smiling faces as they are getting more comfortable with their new teams friends and reconnecting with previous teachers. This week our volleyball team kicked off their season and next week football and cross country will join them, giving Pirate Nation plenty of chances to cheer on our student-athletes! Remember, admission to all middle school events and games is free, so come out and support our Pirates!

This morning we also celebrated our annual Step Off assembly, where our 8th grade band members performed alongside the PCHS Band. It was absolutely awesome! Their hard work really showed, and they sounded amazing. You can catch the full show tonight at the High School home football game.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend, stay cool, and GO PIRATES!!

~Your principals,

Dr. Chris Miller, principal

Our Fall Sports are starting up! Here’s a quick recap of their week.

Volleyball: It was a busy week on the court! On Monday, our teams battled the New Mark NorthStars, with the A Team earning a thrilling 2–1 win. The B and C Teams fought hard in their matches, with C taking it to three sets.

On Wednesday, our A and B Teams both came away with 2–0 victories over the Heritage Eagles!

Great week of teamwork, competition, and growth for our volleyball teams!

Football & Cross Country: Both teams were eager to get their seasons underway this week, but Mother Nature had other plans! β˜€οΈ The heat kept our athletes on the sidelines a little longer, building plenty of anticipation for their upcoming starts.

πŸŽ‰ Perfect Attendance = Sweet Rewards! πŸŽ‰ Perfect Attendance = Sweet Rewards!

To encourage strong attendance, we’re excited to introduce a new weekly incentive! Each Friday, we will randomly draw two students from each team who are "Crushin' It" by maintaining 100% attendance for the entire week.

Selected students will receive a soda as a reward for their commitment to being at school every day! Below are our winners for this week.

We appreciate your support in helping students build positive attendance habitsβ€”every day counts!

Platte County School District is starting a new tradition to recognize the employees who make a difference every day.

Orange Crush celebrates Pirates who are β€œCRUSHING IT” in the ways they support our students, staff, schools and community. 🏫 Professional Learning Days (PLD) 🏫 Professional Learning Days (PLD)

On Monday, September 21, school will not be in session for our first Professional Learning Community (PLC) day of the 2026-27 school year.

PLC days are designed to establish sustained and uninterrupted time for teachers to work together and collaborate to improve student learning and achievement. This time allows educators to examine and respond to the four basic fundamental questions of a Professional Learning Community:

  • What is it we want students to learn?
  • How will we know when each student has achieved the learning?
  • How will we respond when a student is not learning?
  • How will we respond when we know a child has mastered the learning?

For more information on PCR-3's Professional Learning Community, visit the PLC page on the District's website.

πŸ“± Text Notifications πŸ“± Text Notifications

The District uses text messaging and automated phone calls to notify parents of upcoming events and days off, school closings due to weather, and during emergency situations. Newly enrolled families will automatically receive an opt-in message from 67587. If you missed it, simply text β€œYes” to 67587 to receive text messages.

Since 2005, Pirates ROCK (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) has helped shape a strong culture of character across Platte County School District. More than 20 years later and beginning with the 2026-27 school year, we're building on that tradition by aligning Pirates ROCK with our Portrait of a Graduate essential skills.

This evolution creates a more consistent, student-centered approach to character development by focusing on the six essential skills that prepare learners to thrive in school, careers, and life. Students will continue to be recognized for demonstrating outstanding character while developing the competencies that support our mission of ensuring every learner thrives in an ever-changing world with confidence and resilience, all through a consistent framework and shared language as they grow from kindergarten through graduation.

Throughout the year, we'll focus on these essential skills:

  • August/September: Effective Communication
  • October/November: Self-Awareness
  • December/January: Personal Connections
  • February: Personal Growth
  • March: Problem-Solving
  • April: Global Connections
