Tiger News from Principal Stilwell
Information and communication for Garfield Families
Dear Garfield Families,
As we launch into a strong and successful start to our second semester, report cards will be coming home soon, and mid-winter break is just around the corner. Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Please remember to turn in your ballots to a voter dropbox or in the mail—sending them in early is greatly appreciated rather than waiting until the February 10 deadline. If you have any questions about the bond or levy, please take a look at the resources on our district website, pickup some informational flyers in our office, or stop by and ask me directly.
All the best,
Kathy Stilwell

VOTE BY FEBRUARY 10
School Construction Bond and Education Levy:
Families often ask why so many schools rely on portable classrooms. Today, Everett Public Schools uses 103 portables across our elementary schools, which is equivalent to the size of two and a half elementary schools. These portable classrooms were needed to help our district keep up with growth, but were never meant to be a permanent solution for our students. On February 10, 2026, voters will consider two measures that address this ongoing space challenge.
- Proposition 1, the School Construction Bond, would fund a new elementary school and add permanent classrooms at existing schools, helping reduce the reliance on portable classrooms. The proposal also includes rebuilding Lowell Elementary, improving learning spaces at Cascade and Everett High schools, and updating roofs, heating and cooling systems, playgrounds, and safety features districtwide.
- Proposition 2, the Education Levy, is a renewal measure. It is not a new tax. The levy continues funding for staffing, academic programs, student services, and day-to-day school operations that are not fully covered by the state.
Both these measures will be on the ballot on February 10.

Drop-off time is 9:00 AM
School Supervision & Drop-Off Reminder
School supervision begins at 9:00 AM.
For your child’s safety, please do not drop them off before 9:00 AM, as staff are not available to supervise students earlier.
The school day begins promptly at 9:10 AM.
Thank you for helping us keep all students safe!
School is dismissed at 3:30 PM
Important Reminder About Dismissal and Student Pick-Up
Our school day ends at 3:30 PM, and all students must be picked up promptly at dismissal.
Staff supervision ends at 3:40 PM. Recently, we have had several students waiting until 3:45, 4:00, or later to be picked up. Unfortunately, the office and school staff cannot provide supervision after 3:40 PM.
For your child’s safety, please make sure you have arranged for your student to be picked up on time each day. If you are running late or need support with pick-up arrangements, please call the office (425) 385-4700 so we can work together on a plan.
Thank you for helping us ensure all students are safe at the end of the school day.
Crosswalk Safety
A parent has contacted us about cars violating traffic laws and endangering our students. I am coordinating with the Everett Police Department and district safety officials to address the matter. If you observe any unsafe driving or behavior, please report it to me so we can investigate and address the issue. We are also looking into additional equipment for crosswalks to increase visibility. If you are interested in volunteering, please let Mrs. Stilwell know. We would love to have you join our safety patrol or parking lot safety team! Our number one priority is student safety.
Thank you for your support in protecting our students!
