Dr. Hawthorne's Highlights
Thank you so much for your participation in our Open House and Book Fair! It’s always a joy to see so many families at school, and your involvement makes a big difference in our students' success.
We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Culture Night on Thursday evening. We welcome all families to bring a dish that represents your culture to share. In addition to food and fellowship, we’ll also be offering a variety of helpful resources, including information on medical care, GED classes for adults, and educational materials.
This week and next, students are participating in a writing assessment called Write Score. This progress monitoring tool asks students to read one or more texts and respond to a writing prompt. For example, a fifth-grade student might read about year-round school versus traditional school calendars and be asked to write an argument using details from both texts. These writing samples are then sent to Write Score, which provides individualized feedback and a writing score based on national standards. This assessment is not graded, but it gives us valuable insight into each student’s writing progress. All students in our district complete Write Score at least twice a year.
October marks the beginning of National Bullying Prevention Month. At VRB, we take bullying very seriously. In early October, we will meet with all 4th and 5th grade classes to review our zero-tolerance policies and discuss positive behavior expectations. We hold these sessions every nine weeks to ensure our upper-grade students stay informed and are making good choices.
Finally, please join us in celebrating School Custodian Appreciation Day on October 2nd! We are incredibly grateful for our amazing custodial team here at Butler. A big thank-you to Mr. Keas, our plant manager, and our dedicated custodians: Ms. Kandy, Ms. Leslie, Mr. Tobiras, Mr. Terry, Ms. Pam, Ms. Guiseppa, Mr. Brandon, and Ms. Tammy. We appreciate all you do to keep our school clean and running smoothly!
Wishing everyone a restful and enjoyable weekend!
