Welcoming Dakota Bus
This July, our district will transition student transportation services from Harlow’s to Dakota Bus. Dakota Bus dispatch can be reached at 605-347-1964 for transportation-related questions.
With the new contractor, all families will be required to re-register bus riders for the upcoming 2026-27 school year. Parents and guardians will receive an email in April with a link and instructions to register their children for bus transportation services.
This spring, six routes transitioned early to Dakota Bus due to ongoing staffing and mechanical issues: R-2 Orange, R-3 Red Heart, R-5 Purple Grape, R-6 Blue Bird, R-7 Green Clover, and R-11 Tasmanian Devil. We warmly welcome Dakota Bus and thank them for stepping in early to support our students and families.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this change and address the busing challenges we have experienced this year.
Kindergarten Screening
Families of incoming kindergarten students are encouraged to participate in Kindergarten Screening this spring so we can support each child’s successful transition to school. Screening helps us learn more about your child’s strengths and any areas where additional support may be helpful as they begin school.
Please refer to the Kindergarten Screening article below for specific dates, times, and information on how to sign up for an appointment.
School Board Petition Deadline
Community members interested in serving on the School Board are reminded that nominating petitions must be returned by March 24. Serving on the board is an important way to support our students, staff, and community.

Purple Up Day for Military Families
April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize and celebrate the strength and resilience of children in military families. Our district will observe Purple Up Day on April 10, when students and staff are invited to wear purple to show their support.
Please see the Purple Up / Military Families information below in this newsletter for details about building-level activities and ways your family can participate. We are grateful to our military-connected students and families for the many sacrifices you make for our community and our country.

Invitation To Participate - Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey
The survey is scheduled for 3/16/2026 - 3/25/2026
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, the Meade School District 46-1 is conducting a survey in partnership with Studer Education to monitor our progress in creating a positive school experience for you and your child(ren). Your feedback is crucial in helping the Meade School District identify areas for recognition and improvement.
The survey will ask you to select the school your child(ren) attends. Once you complete the survey for 1 school, you will have the option to provide feedback on another school, if you have a child at another school in the district. Providing feedback to each school should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. We encourage you to complete it in one sitting, as your responses will be saved once you click submit.
The Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey can be accessed here:
To maintain confidentiality of the Parent/Caregiver Survey, our partners at Studer Education will be administering the survey, managing the data collection, and aggregating the data to provide results reports to leaders.
