2026 Teacher of the Year Award
Congratulations to our Distinguished Teacher of the Year, Mr. John Ehlinger, on being selected as the 2026 Greenwich Public Schools Teacher of the Year. This well-deserved honor reflects his outstanding dedication, passion for teaching, and the positive impact he makes on students, staff, and our school community each day. Mr. Ehlinger exemplifies excellence in education, and we are proud to celebrate this remarkable achievement.
5th Grade Senior Trip
Our 5th graders enjoyed a memorable senior trip to Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, where they stepped back in time to learn about Colonial life in early New England. As they explored the historic village and experienced what life was like in the 1800s, they gained a deeper appreciation for our nation’s history. One of the highlights of the trip was participating in a hands-on cooking class, which made the experience both educational and fun.
Greenwich Public Library Visits JC
This week, our librarian friends from Greenwich Public Library visited each classroom to introduce our readers to this year’s Summer Reading Program! Students learned about how the program works, the exciting prizes they can earn, and the many free programs and events available throughout the summer.
Summer reading is a wonderful way to keep students engaged, curious, and connected to books while school is out.
In the coming weeks, I will also be sharing a comprehensive list of summer reading opportunities and resources tailored for all of our students- stay tuned for more details and ideas to keep the reading going all summer long!

June - Book of the Month 📖 Something, Someday
📚 JC Book of the Month: Something, Someday
by Amanda Gorman, Illustrated by Christian Robinson
In June, our JC community is reading Something, Someday by Amanda Gorman, illustrated by Caldecott Honor-winning illustrator Christian Robinson. Written by presidential inaugural poet and bestselling author Amanda Gorman, this inspiring picture book reminds readers that even the smallest acts of kindness, courage, and hope can create meaningful change in the world around us.
Through poetic language and vibrant illustrations, Something, Someday follows a community coming together to repair, rebuild, and care for what has been neglected- showing students that change often begins with one idea, one action, or one person willing to start. The story beautifully highlights themes of perseverance, empathy, collaboration, and the power of using your voice to make a difference.
This message connects especially well to the incredible weeklong work our Grade 4 students will be doing alongside visiting author Katie Petruzziello. Our Grade 4 authors will write, illustrate, and publish their very own picture books centered on a personal “Mighty Moment” of courage, growth, or perseverance. This authentic author experience reflects the bedrock of literacy- helping students see themselves not only as readers, but as writers, storytellers, and creators whose voices matter. Just like Something, Someday, this experience reminds students that their stories, ideas, and creativity have the power to inspire change and create something meaningful.
We are so excited to celebrate creativity, resilience, and student voice across our JC community. What a beautiful reminder that something small, someday, can grow into something extraordinary.
