Respecting Differences
No two people are exactly alike, even if they are identical twins! The personality traits, appearance, and cultural influences that make each person unique help make our world more interesting and diverse!
Teaching children the social skills to be accepting of the things that make others different can help them as they mature and begin to experience different cultures and appearances.
Here are a few tips to teach your students or children to help them accept and learn about differences in their peers:
- Keep an open mind – be willing to learn about others’ point of view
- Smile and Introduce yourself – Make others feel welcomed by saying hello and introducing yourself!
- Learn more about the other person – ask questions to learn more about them. Get to know their interests – you may have more in common than you originally thought!
- Find things you have in common – share your favorite hobbies, TV shows, books, music, etc. and see what they enjoy.
Accept that your differences make you both special!

Our Spring Scholastic BOGO Book Fair is just around the corner, and we need volunteers to help! Book Fair will be held Monday, May 19th through Friday, May 23rd in the Science Lab. If we get enough volunteers, we will try to keep the fair open a couple of evenings for families to come in and shop with their students (no students will be allowed to shop after school without a grown-up). Please click the link and see if you can help bring the Book Joy at the Spring BOGO Book Fair!
Remember if you are volunteering during the school day, you need to have a valid background check on file. If you are volunteering after school, you do not need the background check. Links for the background check can be found here.
