A message from the principal
Reflecting on Our First Two Weeks: Energy, Connection, and Community
Dear RMS Families,
With our first two weeks almost officially behind us, that unmistakable middle school energy has taken over our halls—and it is truly electric! Walking through the building each day and seeing our scholars settle in, build connections, and bring our school to life reminds me why serving as your principal is such an incredible honor.
We kicked off the year with an amazing Day Zero, where our WEB Leaders went above and beyond to welcome our 6th-grade class. From high-energy games and school tours to a schedule "scavenger hunt," our student leaders and teachers worked hand-in-hand to ensure every 6th grader felt supported, knew where to go, and had a familiar face in their corner. Watching those initial first-day jitters melt away into smiles, high fives, and visible relief was wonderful.
Each morning, we pick right back up with our multi-age Royal Rally groups. Designed as a true homebase and "school family," Royal Rally gives our scholars a consistent space to build routines, master organization, connect across grade levels, and grow their social and self-advocacy skills. Our goal is to ensure every single student experiences that deep sense of belonging starting with walking through that Royal Rally door each morning.
The other day, I was walking down the hall and noticed a stray sticky note on the ground. When I picked it up and read the encouraging words written on it, I had to pause—this is the exact experience we want every single Royal to have during their time with us. It was a simple, powerful reminder of the supportive, connected culture we are striving to build and sustain at RMS.
Thank you for your trust, your enthusiasm, and your ongoing partnership as we launch this new school year together. It has been a fantastic start, and we are so grateful to have you in our Royal community!
Warmly,
Kaela Rekucki
Principal, RMS

Royal Recharge and Equipment Donations
We launched Royal Recharge this year—a post-lunch window where students head to the gyms for movement, play, and connection with peers! Students eat first and clean up their spaces before earning permission to recharge. The response has been overwhelming, and kids LOVE it!
To keep the momentum going, we are seeking donations of active equipment:
Items Needed: Hacky sacks, basketballs, volleyballs, hula hoops, and other outdoor/gym activity equipment.
How to Donate: Please contact Office Supervisor Cindy Bautch at cindy.bautch@ahschools.us.
School Fundraiser
Upcoming School Fundraiser: Empower, Belong, Learn
Our upcoming fundraiser directly supports student projects, classroom resources, and school environment enhancements. Here is how your generosity makes an immediate impact across our three core commitments:
1. Empower (Active & Hands-On Learning)
Past Impact: Funded ELA iPads, VR headsets, Tech Ed V5 Robot Brains, 3D printers, adaptive band instruments, and sensory tools.
Future Goals: Expand Señor Wooly online Spanish subscriptions and introduce flexible classroom seating (floor desks with cushions, active stools, small-group tables).
2. Belong (Community, Inclusion & Spirit)
Past Impact: Upgraded the front entry, funded WEB leader bags, board games, chess sets, a portable karaoke machine, band accessories for families in need, musical costume assistance, and our RMS mascot costume.
Future Goals: Install bubble-tube sensory walls for student regulation, refresh front-entry landscaping and seating, and support Spring Musical costs and Fun Friday events.
3. Learn (Academic Growth & Literacy)
Past Impact: Provided new literature sets, calculators, CAPTI intervention wipeboards, counseling space monitors, and staff PLC professional development.
Future Goals: Add classroom whiteboards for vertical collaboration, kidney tables for small-group instruction, and new ELA book sets (The Amazing Generation).
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Drop-Off, Pick-Up & Building Safety
⚠️ Important Supervision & Closure Notice:
The school day ends at 3:05 PM. Because staff supervision ends shortly after, all students not in a registered activity or sport must leave campus or be picked up by 3:30 PM. The building locks promptly at 3:30 PM for scheduled Community Education and athletic programs. Students waiting after 3:30 PM must wait outdoors in the designated pick-up area, which is unsupervised after this time.
West Parking Lot Safety Procedures (Arrival: 7:45–8:25 AM | Dismissal: 2:30–3:20 PM)
Pull All the Way Forward: Enter the West Lot and pull all the way forward along the sidewalk curb line before loading or unloading.
NO PARKING OR WAITING IN LOT SPACES: Do not park or wait in open parking spaces. Students walking between idling or moving cars creates a severe safety hazard. All drop-offs and pick-ups must occur directly at the sidewalk curb.
Buses Only in Front: The front lot near Door 2 is strictly reserved for buses during arrival and dismissal.
Follow Traffic Guards: Follow all instructions from our exit crossing guards to ensure traffic merges safely onto 125th Ave NE.
Conferences
Fall conferences will be November 12 from 3:30-7:00 pm. In addition to the November 12 conference evening, staff also have limited office hours for communication. If you would like to arrange time with a staff member during their office hours, please contact the teacher directly.

ReachMyTeach: School and Family Communication Tool
Some Anoka-Hennepin Schools staff may use a new communication tool, Reach My Teach, to connect with families. This tool allows teachers to send messages in your preferred language, directly to your phone or email without requiring an app download.
A message from “Reach My Teach” may look unfamiliar at first. Here’s what to expect:
- You may receive a message from a phone number or email address you don’t recognize. These are generated by Reach My Teach and used by your student’s teacher or staff member to communicate with you.
- A legitimate message will include the teacher’s name and your student’s name, so you know it’s a real school message.
- You can reply directly to the message in your own language — it will be translated on our end, making two-way communication easier and more inclusive.
- No account is needed. Simply respond as you would to a regular text or email.
Please note: If you're ever unsure about whether a message is legitimate, please email the staff member who left the message at your student’s school to verify.
Thank you for staying engaged with your student’s education. We look forward to partnering with you throughout the year!

Device Protection Plan
Families have the option to enroll in the Device Protection Plan.
The Technology Protection Plan is optional; it is not required, however, by electing not to participate in the Protection Plan, families may be required to reimburse the school district for the replacement or repair of damaged Chromebooks assigned to their student/s. Damaged or broken screens may cost between $50 to $100 depending on parts needed; or the replacement cost for the entire device could be up to $300.
In 2026-27: Sixth and seventh grade devices will be under warranty. The warranty will cover accidental damage. Families can still opt in for the tech protect plan, but it will only be needed to cover a stolen device (with a police report). The technology protection plan will not be needed for other damage. This is for sixth-grade only.
Families can opt-in to the Device Protection Plan by logging into ParentVUE and selecting "Fees." Parents must select or decline coverage under the Device Protection Plan. The enrollment window is open from the time summer communication is sent until Friday, Oct. 30, 2026.
The plan cost is $20 per student or $60 per family per school year.
If the student qualifies for free or reduced-price school meals in the current school year, the cost of the Protection Plan will be reduced to $0.
Repairs with the Protection Plan are subject to a $20 deductible.
Enroll in the Device Protection Plan by logging into ParentVUE and selecting "Fees."

Volunteer news
RMS
As a part of district budget reductions last school year, individual Volunteer Service Coordinator (VSC) positions at secondary sites were eliminated. This means there will no longer be a dedicated VSC at each secondary school. We have moved to a centralized model to manage all volunteer needs.
Volunteers are still a very important part of our school community and we will continue to work to support volunteer needs in our buildings and process volunteer applications in accordance with district risk management procedures.
Take a minute and complete Roosevelt MS Volunteer Application for this school year. Send a message
to MSVolunteerServices@ahschools.us if you have general questions about volunteering or need assistance with the volunteer paperwork.
Every Meal
Every Meal provides Roosevelt Middle School families access to food each week. This is an optional program provided free of charge. Please complete the form if you would like to enroll your student in this program.
Food is sent home with your student once a week.
Email Kara Alger with questions.

Proceed to complete back-to-school forms for the 2026-27 school year.
Why it matters: It’s important that each family completes the verification process and the online back-to-school forms before the first day of school. Verification ensures that each student’s school has confirmed emergency contact information and releases for the safety of each student.
What’s in it for you: Even if families’ contact information has not changed, it’s important to log in to access a variety of other student information in the coming weeks, including:
Class schedules and teacher assignments.
Transportation information, if relevant.
Receive additional educational benefits, discounts and reduced fees.
High school students will not be able to enroll in fall activities until the back to school verification process is complete.
Anywhere, on-the-go: Families may complete the verification on their own time, whenever it’s convenient. If you prefer to utilize the ParentVUE mobile app to access your student’s information, please note that the app has been updated. Read more about downloading the updated version of ParentVUE.

E-Bikes, E-Motos and Motorized Scooters
E-Bikes, e-motos and motorized scooters not allowed at school
Minnesota state law places a 15-year-old minimum age restriction for legal operation of any electric-assisted bicycle, commonly called E-Bikes. In addition, Anoka-Hennepin places restrictions regarding the operation of these vehicles and motorized scooters and e-motos on school property.
District guidelines: In order to ensure safety around school, Anoka-Hennepin Schools prohibits the use of E-bikes, e-motos and motorized scooters on elementary and middle school property during the school day and immediately before and after school. School property includes sidewalks, trails, fields, parking lots and roadways.
E-Bike basics: E-Bikes come in three categories and can reach speeds of between 20 and 28 mph. While wearing a helmet is recommended, it is not required by state law. Riders must be age 15 or older and must also obey any local guidelines put in place by other jurisdictions.
With the age restriction, students in middle school or younger are not legally authorized to operate these forms of transportation. The School District does not have restrictions regarding the use of standard bicycles on school property.
Go deeper: Review important information from area law enforcement partners regarding the operation of these forms of transportation on city streets and trails. Anoka County, Anoka, Blaine, Ramsey, Brooklyn Park, Champlin and Dayton.
Fan Expectation
The following expectations are in place to ensure that all who attend experience a safe, welcoming, and positive environment.
ALL middle and elementary school students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (21 or older) to enter Bengal Stadium.
All spectators are expected to remain in the stands to enjoy the game.
Bags are not permitted.
Please show respect to staff and follow these expectations to ensure a great experience for everyone. We can’t wait to see you cheering on the Bengals!
Anoka-Hennepin Middle School Attendance Policy at events
Our goal is to provide a fun, safe, and engaging opportunity for middle school students and their families to support high school athletes as they participate in football, band, dance, and cheer. The following expectations are in place to ensure that all who attend experience a safe, welcoming, and positive environment.
All five Anoka-Hennepin traditional high schools (Andover, Anoka, Blaine, Champlin Park and Coon Rapids) have made the transition to online ticket sales for athletics and activities events. With the exception of some boys and girls hockey events, all ticket sales for events hosted by district schools will be online using Bound, the official mobile ticketing system for athletic events.
Middle school students:
Students will be admitted to football games with a valid Bound ticket, accompanied by a valid ID and a guardian escort, with a 2:1 student-to-adult ratio.
Unsupervised students will not be permitted entry.
The student code of conduct for school extends to all Anoka-Hennepin school events. Students running, throwing objects, using profanity, or causing other disruptions will be required to sit with their guardian for the remainder of the game.
If the student’s guardian is not present, an administrator on duty will call home and escort the students to the front of the gate to wait to be picked up.
There will be no refunds if a student is removed from the game before its conclusion.
If a guardian has to be called about a student’s behavior, the student will not be admitted to a football game for the remainder of the year.
Significant disruptions and policy violations are subject to further disciplinary action.
Students are not permitted to bring backpacks, footballs, soccer balls, etc., to games. Balls will be confiscated at the gate or by administration if brought to the stadium.
Students still on campus 15 minutes after the conclusion of a game will not be permitted to return to a game for the remainder of the season.
Middle school guardians:
Do not drop your student off unattended at the football game. It is expected that guardians supervise their students.
Please review expectations of behavior with your student(s) before arrival and arrange for a meeting location at the end of the game.
If your student is brought to you in the bleachers, please make sure your student remains with you for the duration of the game.
As stated above, please be aware that students still on campus, unsupervised, 15 minutes after the conclusion of an event will not be permitted to attend future events.
