The First Day of School @ Tuscan!

Dear Tuscan Family~

Thank you to all Tuscan teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, office staff, parents and especially to our students! In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic and a major construction project at Tuscan, we are off to an enthusiastic and strong start to the 2021 – 2022 school year at Tuscan!

Let's work together with fortitude to keep Tuscan’s children healthy and safe while seeking to make this school year engaging and wonderful for our students! Please know that individually and collectively, you are a vital part of our school community. Your positive energy on the first day of school was an uplifting sign of hope for a joyful and successful school year at Tuscan!

Throughout this week, teachers will continue to establish routines and practices to build a strong foundation for our students to productively work and learn together as supportive, mutually respectful and cooperative members of a dynamic classroom community of learners. Ultimately, in every classroom we aim to create a safe, nurturing, engaging and joyful learning environment that will inspire and appropriately challenge each student to reach increasingly higher levels of success in academic and social/emotional learning.

From our perspective the first day of school at Tuscan unfolded as planned and pleasantly exceeded many of our expectations. The entire school day with Tuscan’s children was amazing and better than we had imagined. Our primary responsibility is to continue to work to ensure that our students remain safe and healthy to enjoy meaningful in-person learning experiences throughout the school year.

By now, you may have received the most important first day of school feedback from your child. We hope that moving forward your child's daily updates are joyful and positive reflections of their Tuscan experience.

We deeply thank you for your patience, understanding and positive partnership as we continue to do all that we can to keep Tuscan’s children safe and well educated within a nurturing and supportive school environment. Remember that your voice and your insights are highly valued. If you have any questions or concerns about any aspect of your child’s Tuscan experience, please contact your child’s teacher or reach out to Tuscan School Administration at ROARforTuscan@somsd.k12.nj.us.

Let’s have a great first week of school and until next time, be well and stay safe!

Ms. Malikah Tamar Majeed, Tuscan School Principal

Mr. Brad Bertani, Tuscan School Assistant Principal

Ms. Angela Thompson, Tuscan School Nurse

Tuscan Construction Update from the Tuscan Tidings 06.28.21

Construction work on the Tuscan blacktop beginning this summer is part of the District’s Long Range Facilities Plan (LRFP).

To commemorate the launch of construction at Tuscan, the South Orange & Maplewood School District along with EPIC Construction hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, June 28, 2021.

Although we will deeply miss the Tuscan blacktop, we will hold dear in our hearts all the happy memories of the beloved space.

Please know that while construction is taking place, we will do our best to more fully utilize all available outdoor space at Tuscan. When construction is complete, the portable classrooms will be removed and the new space gained will be developed for safe outdoor play and arrival/dismissal. We are so excited that in the near future all Tuscan students and teachers will be connected under one roof.

New patterns for student arrival/morning line up and dismissal will be shared prior to the start of the 2021-2022 school year.
