Message From Our Superintendent

Dear BYRON USD Community,

As our final piece of the 2025-26 school year comes to a close this week, we would like to thank all of our Extended School Year (ESY) and Summer Learning Program administrators, teachers, staff, students and families! These last few weeks provided opportunities for students to focus on learning goals, making new friends, enjoying STEAM activities and building additional skills to help them grow as they prepare for the next school year.

We are so proud of the incredible year we've had and the numerous milestones we shared together! The learning, laughter, and joy was infectious at all our school sites as we celebrated all that our students accomplished. Our dedicated teachers, staff, administrators, parents, and community worked together to provide a space for our students to thrive, shine and achieve greatness. Thank you for the partnership, collaboration and care that helped our students build confidence, grit, perseverance, and knowledge!

This year we also honored and celebrated the largest group of retirees we've had in nearly a decade! We are grateful for their service, proud of the impact they've made, and inspired by their dedication to support our students of Byron USD. We wish them all the best in the next chapter of their lives!

May you find opportunities to relax, read, play games, travel, and soak up the summer sun! We look forward to hearing all about your adventures when you return on Tuesday, July 28!

I am truly honored and grateful to serve the Byron USD community. I appreciate the opportunity each day to be part of this special place to learn and grow!

In partnership,

Superintendent Castaneda

😎 Summer Academy Fun! 😎 😎 Summer Academy Fun! 😎

Summer Academy has been full of learning, laughter, and fun. Students have enjoyed everything from art and STEM projects to kickball, hula hoops, playground games, and outdoor activities. It's been wonderful to see friendships grow while giving students a safe, active place to spend their summer.

Discovery Bay Elementary 4th Graders Raise Money for local nonprofit

The 4th graders at Discovery Bay Elementary found a creative way to elevate the live wax museum event at Open House and helped raise money for a local non-profit, Coyote Crossing Ranch Rescue & Sanctuary. During this event, the students were dressed as famous historical figures and performed in a Living Wax Museum. They collected money from the guests that attended the Living Wax Museum and in total raised $540 for Coyote Crossing Ranch Rescue & Sanctuary. Their primary purpose is to rescue and rehabilitate animals by providing professional care, food, and shelter. Once the animals have fully recovered, they are able to be released into their natural habitats or some are up for adoption for new homes within the community. One of our teachers was able to find a forever home with her family for one of the baby bunnies! If you would like information on how to support this nonprofit organization, or how to provide a forever home for the animals in need, please click here: https://www.coyotecrossingrescue.com/

The Board of Trustees honored our DBE 4th grade classes and their teachers (Mr. Penning, Ms. Dougherty and Mrs. Musser) at the Board Meeting on June 9, 2026 to thank them for their commitment to serving the community.

πŸ’Mrs. Dougherty's Ice Cream Field Trip to Callahan's Coffee & ConesπŸ’

Five years ago, Mrs. Dougherty brought learning to life by creating an innovative writing opportunity that ends with a trip to the local ice cream shop where students can taste the winning recipe and experience the new flavor together.

Last week, our 4th graders were filled with excitement as they walked on the annual trip to see who was the winner of the new ice cream flavor feature for Callahan's Coffee & Cones. Each student has to submit a persuasive letter with an original recipe and a poster to promote their new ice cream delight! Mr. Callahan and his team reviewed all submissions and chose Jaxon Nelson's new flavor Lava Cherry! We appreciate Mr. Callahan for his engagement with the ice cream mixology experience for this special annual project with our students.
