Mid-October 2026
A Message from Principal Laughlin
Dear Parents & Guardians:
As we settle into the middle of October, I want to share several important reminders, upcoming dates, and resources to help keep our school year running smoothly. Please review the key information below.
1. Chromebook & Case Care
Daily Charging: Students must charge their Chromebooks at home every night and bring them to school fully charged each day.
Property: Both the Chromebook and its protective case remain the property of Wall Township Schools. Please remind your child that drawing, writing, or placing stickers on the Chromebook or case is strictly prohibited.
2. Student ID Storage
Our front office is receiving a high volume of student IDs at the end of each day. To prevent lost IDs, students must hang their ID inside their locker before leaving for dismissal.
3. Free & Reduced-Price Meal Applications
The 30-day carryover period for temporary meal benefits from the previous school year ends on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
To maintain uninterrupted benefits, a new application must be submitted immediately.
How to apply:

Temporary Bus Route/Stop Changes
When an emergency arises and a student needs to ride a different bus or get dropped off at a different bus stop, please contact the Main Office (732) 556-2500 or send a note stating the reason for requesting the change. If granted, the student will be given an Alternate Destination Permission Form to give to the bus driver. This procedure will help ensure the safe arrival of the student to his/her destination. This request will only be honored if it is unsafe for the student to get off at his/her regular stop and or ride a regular route, e.g., extenuating circumstances resulting in no adult supervision of the student at home. Please do not ask for “a bus pass” to ride home on a different bus for purposes other than true emergencies.

🍁 Counselor’s Corner: Welcome to October at WIS!
Happy October, WIS Families! 🍂
October is going to be a busy and exciting month at WIS! Throughout the month, our students will participate in schoolwide theme weeks and activities focused on belonging, respect, safety, healthy choices, and positive connections.
Our goal is to help every student feel connected, valued, safe, and supported as they learn, grow, and make a difference in our school community.
Here’s a look at what’s happening in our halls this month!
October 5-9: Week of Respect & NJ Goes Gold & Blue
We’re kicking off the month by celebrating kindness, positive relationships, inclusion, and respect!
This year, WIS has officially taken the pledge and joined New Jersey’s Goes Gold & Blue initiative, a statewide effort focused on standing together against bullying and promoting safe, respectful school communities.
WIS Theme: UNITE. RESPECT. INCLUDE. SPEAK UP. MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
October 19-23: Unity Week & School Violence Awareness
Creating a safe and welcoming school takes ALL of us! During Unity Week, we’ll focus on kindness, inclusion, connection, and creating a true sense of belonging.
Throughout the week, students will explore:
Positive Relationships: Building genuine connections.
Trusted Adults & Safety: Knowing who to turn to when help is needed.
Calming & Coping Skills: Learning practical tools to manage stress, stay grounded, and navigate big emotions.
October 27-30: Red Ribbon Week
Introducing: THE WIS LEAGUE OF HEROES
We’ll wrap up the month with Red Ribbon Week, encouraging our students to make healthy choices, build confidence, and live substance-free lives!
Our Theme
Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Substance Free.
Our Message
Real confidence. Real connection. Real fun. No substances needed.
Remember
Your choices are your superpower!
We’re looking forward to a month filled with opportunities for our students to connect, build confidence, show kindness, and make a difference in our WIS community.
As always, we’re here to support our students and families. If you have questions, concerns, or feel your child could use additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Warmly,
The WIS Counseling Department

Ready, Set, Belong: 5 Ways to Prepare for a Positive Start
Whether your child is entering elementary, middle, or high school, the start of a new school year brings a mix of excitement, anticipation, and sometimes a little uncertainty. While each stage of development presents unique experiences, there are a few universal strategies that can help students of all ages feel prepared, connected, and confident.
1. Get Back into a Routine
A week or two before school starts, begin returning to school-year routines. Younger children can practice bedtime and morning routines, while older students can reset sleep schedules and organize school materials.
2. Build a Sense of Belonging
Connecting with familiar peers can make returning to school feel easier. Plan a playdate for younger children or encourage older students to connect with friends before the first day.
3. Get Familiar with the School Routine
Help your child know what to expect. Younger children can practice drop-off, while older students can review schedules, transportation, locker combinations, or classroom locations.
4. Encourage Voice and Agency
Help your child practice speaking up, asking for help, and solving everyday problems. Talk through situations such as forgetting lunch, getting lost, missing the bus, or needing help. Older students can practice emailing a teacher or asking a question on their own.
5. Talk About Their Feelings
Make time to talk about excitement, worry, or uncertainty. Help your child make a simple plan, such as talking to a Trusted Adult, reaching out to a friend, or asking a teacher for help.
