An Update from Jason

Hello All,

I hope you are well and had a lovely weekend. The snow set me back mentally; I did not see my dad, and it bummed me out. My NCAA bracket is in the trash, and it was just a so-so weekend. However, I did get to hang out with Lily G all weekend. Renee got home late Sunday because of the storm, and all will be ok.

BUT! There is great news! This week is Open Day in Major League Baseball. Go Yankees! The weather is getting warmer, and the snow will be gone. We had a wonderful Soup for Soul event last week, conferences, and more and more sunlight each day.

This is a "back to Normal" week at MHS. 5 days of Solon Blocks. We appreciate Becca G for starting an Executive Functioning Solon Block on the 25th, and we are prescribing some students to attend. As this is the last week of March and April 5th is the end of the third quarter at MHS. Progress reports will be mailed home the week of April 8th, and it is essential grades are entered so students, caregivers, counselors, and special educators know where students are at to be supported. If you need time or have questions, please let me know.

I'm looking forward to a great new week, connecting with you, a new Exchange student visiting, and possibly a new student enrolling on April 1st. Thank you for all of your work, communication, and support of our students. I appreciate you all.

Sincerely,

Jason

"Some people get addicted to chain-smoking their problems. They spend all day going from sorrow to sorrow. It doesn't have to be that way. You can live each day going from joy to joy—like a sunflower that turns to face the sun as it moves across the sky. It's not about having a problem-free life, but about focusing on the light. Sunflowers still have shadows, but they are always behind them."

Reminders (To Do)

  • On 3/27 there is a possible student walkout to protest the war in Gaza. Students can walk out, are responsible for the learning/missed time, we support quiet protests, and teachers cannot leave their classrooms UN-supervised to walkout. We need to keep safety in mind.
  • Please enter your upcoming spring events onto the shared Staff Calendar. This way we do not miss any events and or double book.
  • G&W Calendar Change- April 10 becomes GREEN and April 17th becomes a WHITE DAY because of the Eclipse.
  • During TA on Monday please have students take the MEDIA Studies Survey. An email is going out at 9:00 AM on Monday.
  • Grades- please enter grades for students. Progress Reports will be mailed home soon.
  • Please read and respond to Sue's email about COGNIA if you have not done so:
This is a draft of room assignments for students and proctors for the VTCAP testing, April 2-4. Please take a moment to look this over, and let me know if:

    1. You will not be here on the day you are assigned to proctor.
    2. There is an issue with your room assignment. For the most part, I tried to keep teachers in their own rooms, unless their classroom is not set up with desks.
    3. If you are assigned to proctor on more than one day. The exception to this is special educators, who should oversee IAs proctoring students in separate settings.
    4. If you see any other major issue with the assignments.

TA CONNECTIONS GAME CHALLENGE

MHS TA's are starting our own New York Times Style Connections Challenge. What your TA needs to do is this-

1. Use the link that provided as well as the shared doc where teachers/administrators can enter their Connection.

2. Have your TA make a COPY and create their own Connections, and include your TA NAME.

Share it with Jason so we can add it to our shared folder.

3. Jason will share the week's link each Tuesday morning with a brief Good Morning MHS Community blurb

4. Once we have enough Connections, we can begin.
5. Questions- please ask JK, Whitney, and Sue:)

RELATIONSHIP-BUILDING ACTIVITY- other ideas

Vermont Public: NOVA’s Great American Eclipse- For you, your family or students.

On April 3, 2024, at 8 p.m., watch NOVA’s Great American Eclipse special on Vermont Public’s TV broadcast or stream online. Explore the spectacular cosmic phenomenon of a total solar eclipse. In April 2024, the moon’s shadow is sweeping from Texas to Maine, as the U.S. witnesses its last total solar eclipse until 2044. This extraordinary astronomical event will plunge locations in the path of totality into darkness for more than four minutes. Learn how to watch an eclipse safely and follow scientists as they work to unlock secrets of our sun.
