PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear OSES Families,
As we approach the final days of the school year, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our students, families, and staff for making this year such a meaningful and successful one. Your dedication, resilience, and enthusiasm have truly made a difference!
As we head into summer break, I wish each of you a season filled with rest, joy, and new adventures. But before we part ways, we have one more exciting event to look forward to—next Tuesday, we’ll be celebrating our amazing students with in-class awards ceremonies! It’s a special time to recognize their hard work, growth, and accomplishments throughout the year.
Let’s finish strong and celebrate together!
Warmly,
Michael Singleton

STEMpowering Women: Stories of Passion and Perseverance
My name is Shrika Velagapudi, I'm a junior at Orlando Science High School. I took up creative writing as a hobby this past summer, and recently had the wonderful opportunity to publish a nonfiction children’s book about 10 remarkable female scientists from around the globe who broke barriers and accomplished great feats in STEM. Traveling to India every summer, I was devastated to learn how many girls shared my same aspirations and dreams, but simply didn't have the resources or opportunities to bring them to fruition. This drove me to play my part as an advocate for STEM learning and overcoming systemic barriers: 100% of the profits made from my book, "STEMpowering Women", go to funding tech access and education for the millions of Indian girls living in poverty and denied opportunities.
"STEMpowering Women" is a compilation of varying women's journeys to success in the fields of STEM, as they conquer countless challenges and obstacles to prove the world wrong. Mentioned throughout this colorful, inspirational children's book are the tales and accomplishments of women scientists from all over the globe, such as Sally Ride, Antonia Novello, Marie Curie, and more. The aim of this book is to inspire young children, especially girls between the ages of 4 and 10, to take up careers in the field of STEM, and break gender barriers in this male-dominated area.
It would mean a lot to me if you all could check out my book, share with all your family and friends, or even leave a small review to bring awareness to the cause.

KINDERGARTEN
Volden
Kindergarten has been super busy this week! On Monday we had field day! It was great seeing the students all working together as a team while having a great and wet time! We have some more fun days planned ahead with our first ever Kindy 500 this Friday. We will also have our Kinder carnival on Wednesday 5/28. There will be fun, food, and lots of great memories! Thank you to all the parents who have signed up to volunteer or donated to help on these days! Your help is greatly appreciated!
FIRST
Nickerson
What an exciting final week it’s been! Our students had an absolute blast during activity rotations. They were introduced to multiplication skills through engaging math activities in Ms. Nickerson’s room, got creative making bath bombs with Mrs. Vancol, danced and celebrated at a glowing Glow Party with Ms. DiNuzzo, and enjoyed a variety of fun games in the classrooms of Ms. Bayno, Mrs. Quarterman, and Ms. Keene.
We are incredibly proud of everything our students have accomplished this year. Their hard work, curiosity, and growth have been inspiring. We can’t wait to see them continue to challenge themselves and shine even brighter in 2nd grade!

The last Friday of the school year is here! What an incredible journey this class has had—they've worked hard, learned so much, and grown in ways that will carry them into their next adventure. This week’s Field Day was a blast, and we are so grateful to all the specials teachers who made it possible with their dedication and effort.
As we say, "see you later," we step forward into the next grade with confidence, excitement, and determination. To our amazing parents—thank you for your unwavering support in making this year such a success. This group of students has left a lasting imprint on my heart, and I couldn’t be prouder of them!
THIRD
Martin
This week in 3rd grade we’re winding down the year with a variety of research projects, field day and artwork. We created our field day shirts and had a great time on Tuesday. We investigated national parks and have been making presentations to describe ourselves and memory books for the year. I want to thank everyone for a wonderful school year in 24-25.
We are excited to say that many of our students are ready to move on to 4th grade next year and will look forward to hearing about their future successes. Check with your child’s teacher for last day of school plans.
Mr. Martin.
FOURTH
Polejes
Fourth grade had the best last full week of school! In Ms. Polejes’ class, students took all they learned this year and created their own board games. Students pulled information from their Science Journals and all topics learned in math to make fun challenges for other students to try and play!
All of fourth grade got to participate in Field Day! Everyone played well together and got to enjoy their time together.
FIFTH
Saucedo
In Mrs. Saucedo’s class over the past few weeks, students have been actively engaged with STEM projects. They started by building their own bottle rockets to explore which fin shapes would give them the most airtime, and this week they had a great time testing and investigating their designs out in the field. In math, students shared their geometry projects, some created structures out of unit cubes, others designed fun cat tree houses using various prisms, and we even saw some very creative and unique flag designs using different 2D shapes.
Our fifth graders had a fantastic time visiting the 4Roots Farm Campus! During our visit, the students enjoyed the exciting "Hydroponic Heroes" program to help enrich our science curriculum. They learned about hydroponics through a fun lab showing how water moves from roots to plants, took a campus and greenhouse tour, participated in a craft activity demonstrating how aquaponics systems work, and even had the chance to test water samples for pH and nitrates.
SPECIALS
Field Day!
This week K-5th got to enjoy field day put together by our amazing SPECIALS team where they got to go outside and play with water and pizza boxes. Thank you to all our volunteers who helped make this a possibility the students had soo much fun!
SIXTH
Greetings 6th grade families, it has been an honor to teach your students and see them grow across these many months. Students have mastered many different standards, techniques, and made social advances. Just as the children will miss us, we will miss them and the many memories we have made over the year. Some reminders are:
Please no backpacks the last Tuesday and Wednesday of the school year (May 27th and May 28th).
Please talk to the children about behavior and the need to follow rules and procedures, especially on the final days of the year.
Thank you for being partners in a successful 6th grade year and we will you the best of luck at the Lynx Campus for 7th grade!
The 6th grade team.
Kickball Highlights!
This week was packed with exciting kickball action! On Wednesday, May 21, we held our annual ORCA Ticket Kickball Game, where the teachers triumphed in a spirited match. Then on Friday, May 23, the 6th grade students faced off against the teachers in a friendly yet competitive game that ended in a tie! We wrapped up our annual kickball games with lots of fun, great sportsmanship, and memorable moments for all.
