News π°
A.R.T. Performance
Friday, December 15, and Saturday, December 16, at 7:00 PM, ART will present a holiday show of our own as we attempt to establish a tradition thwarted by COVID- the English panto. For those of you unfamiliar with panto, take a well-known fairy tale, throw in a heavy helping of parody, a few well-known songs, a dancing horse (yes, really), and a few more Monty Python-esque tropes, and voila: family-friendly entertainment for the holidays!
Adrian:The Alternative Panto is sure to bring laughs- and a delicious dessert bar at intermission! As usual, PAHCC staff are invited to attend at no charge- just let me know which show you'd like to attend.
Hope to see you at the shows!
Open House π
We had a fantastic Open House last month!
After the official ribbon cutting, we had a steady stream of students, families, community members, Board Members, and old friends visiting both main and north campuses.
We also appreciated the snacks put together by our Culinary Arts students.
A huge thank you to our custodial, facilities, and maintenance crew, Allen Pulsifer, Eric Kennison, Fred Jimmo, and our newest custodian, John Sequin, for putting a shine on our facilities.
Thank you also to Dan Callahan, for getting our tech running so we could utilize our newly installed video screens in both the entryway and the Glass Onion.
And of course, thank you to all of our staff and faculty for representing your programs and industries so well. It was a great night for PAHCC!
Curriculum Grant π€
The curriculum is getting a tech refresh, starting with high-tech manufacturing.
There's no better way to kick-start a high-tech manufacturing grant than with a high-tech curriculum design.
With the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the grant team working on our $550K advanced manufacturing grant is streamlining curriculum design for a fast and efficient path to the future.
Team PAHCC Shenanigans π€ͺ
Our resident frolicsome friends, a.k.a. The Sunshine Committee, organized a Fall Carnival last month to help spread cheer as we headed into the season of giving thanks.
As a thank you to our staff and faculty who keep this school running smoothly and joyfully, we created carnival games with prizes to celebrate the day: "Ring and Hook Toss" and "Guess the weight and number of magnetic fridge clips" in the plastic tote.
Prizes included HCC syrup, Glass Onion gift cards, as well as hats and gear from our friends at Champlain Valley Equipment (Thanks Becca!).
Alumni Shout Out πΊ
Our very own A.R.T./VisCom/National Arts Honor Society alumni, Tina Friml, had a shout-out of appreciation from Jimmy Fallon on his show!
While at PAHCC, Tina was active in her classes and the National Art Honor Society, and as one of the Lost Boys in the legendary Peter Pan production in 2011.
To hear Fallonβs mention of Tina, cue to minute 3:30 and listen for a shout-out from Jimmy Fallon, which happens at minute 4:00.
Happenings From Class π«
Mechanical Science - NOPS Metalworks π₯
NOPS Metalworks hosted the STEM and Mechanical Science Pre-Tech classes for a tour of their space.
Maverick Mitchell showed students the tools of the trade, many of which matched what we are using here at the Career Center. He also showed students some of the larger-scale tools you see in structural welding. Maverick discussed paths into the career of welding and showed off some welding certification plates.
Sustainable Agriculture, FFA - FFA Convention π«
Our FFA members had a good trip to the National FFA convention in Indianapolis last month!
Congratulations to Calvin Almeida and Rudolf Vorsteveld, and VUHS graduates McKenzie Bell and Isaiah Visser for earning the bronze while representing Vermont in the National Farm and Agribusiness Management competition.
Also congratulations to Gerrit Beenen, Megan LaFountaine, Zack Norris, and VUHS grad Spencer White for earning the bronze representing Vermont in the National Agricultural Technology and Mechanical Systems Competition.
Spencer also earned silver individually. Congratulations also to Malachi Sheldrick, who earned the silver category for Vermont in the Dairy Handling Event!
Culinary Arts - The Glass Onion is Open π½οΈ
The Glass Onion Eatery had an amazingly successful opening day in November!
We served muffins, quiche, bagels, pumpkin parfaits, artisanal seasonal sodas, sesame peanut noodles, pumpkin cheesecake, and spooky cupcakes, and they sold an entire birthday cake!
The students had a lot of fun, and learned so much during service. They sprouted new ideas to modify and adjust plans to better serve our community.
Engineering and Architecture - Glass Onion Planning π
The Engineering & Architecture class wrapped up their architectural planning study for the Glass Onion Eatery with a final design presentation to client Chef Jill.
They produced a package of design drawings that included hand-drafted existing conditions plans and elevations, recommended seating layouts for various configurations of the restaurant, and designs for the service station area.
A highlight of the presentation was an architectural model of the restaurant, complete with furniture that can be moved around to test out different restaurant configurations.
The class has now moved on to building computer skills with Bluebeam Revu (a PDF editor common to the construction industry) and computer drafting with AutoCAD.
Addison Repertory Theater - Halloween Fun π
A.R.T. students created beautiful scenery in the hallways of PAHCC, demonstrating their artistic and set-making skills.
Visual Arts - Next Level Halloween Makeup π€‘
Lisa Raderβs Visual Arts students put their Halloween skills on display as they created incredibly realistic body artwork. Students turned heads as they showed off their creations across the center!
Construction Technology 1 - Playground Building π
This week Construction Tech 1 helped out a VUHS senior with her community service project: building a playground for the John Graham Shelter.
Though we had a false start due to site work, we were able to install the playground this week on top of some muddy ground.
We will return in the spring to sink anchors and spread wood chips after the rest of the site leveling has been completed.
Construction Technology 2 - Tiny House π
This staircase was a brain buster, but our students were up to the task as we calculated stair stringers with a double rise and offset by half a step.
We created a mock set of stairs to see if we needed to make any changes before creating the final product. It is now getting a paint job and tread fabrication will be installed soon.
The Tiny House build is getting closer to completion each week. We tested circuits this week and our electrical works!
We have buttoned up the panel and will start plumbing our bathroom next week.
Diesel and Automotive Technology - RPM Automotive Service ποΈ
Diesel and automotive seniors took a field trip to RPM automotive service in Vergennes to see fellow diesel student, Caylib Gaboriault, in action at his co-op.
Students were able to see many beautiful cars, including Ferraris and Porsches.
Medical Professions - Porter Medical Center π₯
Students in Jennifer Baker's Medical Professions class started shadowing at Porter Medical Center!
Julian Cotell from Medical Professions 2 had the opportunity to shadow a hip surgeon at PMC. Julian was able to be in the OR, observing the surgery as it happened.
Human Services - Work Site Shadowing π΄οΈ
Morning and afternoon Human Services students began their work site placements, volunteering in community settings and learning while working under the guidance of experienced mentors.
So far, the Counseling Service of Addison County, Mary Hogan School, and the Addison County Parent-Child Center have all welcomed our students.
Below, student Riley Amerio supports dramatic play among preschoolers.
Sustainable Agriculture - Plant Sales πͺ΄
The Sustainable Agriculture FFA Mini Chapter extends a special thank you to Renee Carpenter and her crew at Aubuchon Hardware in Middlebury for a successful spring plant sale and change roundup.
Our FFA students grow plants that our community partner, Aubuchon, then sells. This allows our plants to reach a far wider audience than we would be able to alone. This year our students earned over $8,000 through this partnership.
Natural Resource Management - Sawmill πͺ΅
VUHS CAD 2 - Balloon-Powered Cars π
Carl Crawfordβs CAD 2 students at Vergennes High School are finishing up a unit where they design a balloon-powered car with CAD software, 3D print it, test it, and then refine and improve their designs.
Lily Root created an outstanding design. She had to refine her design several times, learning from what did not work well in the prototypes.
Medical Professions - Vermont State University π«
Medical Professions 1 & 2 attended Vermont State University simulator lab this week, where students had the opportunity to learn about and utilize high-tech medical simulators and mannequins.
Diesel 1 - Champlain Valley Equipment
Students in Gretchen Cotell's Diesel 1 class conducted career interviews at Champlain Valley Equipment.
Students met with employees from the service shop, Ag sales, parts, a service manager, and a writer. Following the interviews, students reported to classmates and wrote thank you letters to the employees.
Sustainable Agriculture - Weybridge Sugar Woods π
Visual Communications - Animated GIFs π
HOSA - Competition Prep βοΈ
Students in the Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA) Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO) prepared for their upcoming competition. Much behind-the-scenes work happens before students travel to their competitions.
Addison Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) - Lights, Camera, Action π¬
Evva Dicovitsky, a student in both A.R.T. and Design & Illustration, created the poster for A.R.T.βs upcoming show, Adrian.
Evva also recently created the new logo for The Glass Onion or Culinary Arts restaurant space.
π‘
A.R.T. student Max Carpenter focuses on lights for the upcoming show.

Medical Professions - HOPE π₯«
Students in Medical Professions 1 & 2 donated almost 200 pounds of food to community partner Helping Overcome Povertyβs Effects (HOPE).
Automotive Technology - Overhauls π»
Construction Technology 1 - Outdoor Classroom βοΈ
We have been progressing on our outdoor classroom build for Mary Hogan Preschool.
After fabricating components in the shop, we braved the cold weather this week to start putting up the structure. Students worked hard this week framing up walls, ensuring accurate angles for rafters.
Our efforts were rewarded with hot cider and cookies to end the week and keep us warm as we continued our build.
Sustainable Agriculture - Middlebury FFA π¦ π¦
Middlebury FFA Chapter Officers participated in a day-long leadership training and team-building retreat on Saturday, October 28.
The program was designed and presented by Jackie Chase. Jackie is a former New Hampshire FFA Association State Officer, and parent of two of our current chapter officers.
Sustainable Agriculture - Rail View Dairy π
Students visited Rail View Dairy in New Haven, owned by the Livingston Family.
Brailey Livingston, a student in the morning Sustainable Agriculture section, welcomed the class to their show barn and main farm where we saw their world-class champion cattle, and milking herd, and learned about their management practices.
