πBIG Thursday π
The School Nutrition Association of South Carolina (SNA of SC) is bringing
excitement, team pride, and nutritious meals to cafeterias across the state with the
annual Big Thursday celebration on Thursday, November 19, 2026.
Inspired by the historic rivalry between Clemson University and the University of
South Carolina, Big Thursday unites students, staff, and school communities in a day
filled with spirited fun and healthy choices. School cafeterias statewide will feature
themed decorations, special menus, and a showcase of team pride β all centered on
the message that good nutrition fuels success both in the classroom and on the
field.
βBig Thursday isnβt just about footballβitβs about fueling champions,β said Todd
Bedenbaugh, Executive Director of the School Nutrition Association of South
Carolina. βWhether you cheer for orange and purple or garnet and black, every student
wins when they make healthy choices.β
Students are encouraged to participate by wearing their favorite team colors and
enjoying a nutritious school meal. Participating districts will select one student to
represent their celebration, and those winners will be entered into a statewide
drawing for a $200 gift card and an official Big Thursday T-shirt.
Big Thursday highlights the critical role school nutrition programs play in supporting
student health, academic achievement, and community spirit across South Carolina.

Student Choice
We know todayβs students are looking for a wider variety of foods and more global flavors on their lunch menus. Students will be deciding between either Brisket Nachos or Pork Nachos! Our Student Choice program is letting students decide how to expand their lunch menu.
Be sure to participate and VOTE on what you want to see!

Buddy Bag Initiative
Have you ever experienced a student bring a lunch from home, and they still want a milk when they come into the cafeteria? Or maybe they want a fruit to go with their meal? NO WORRIES!
For our Child Development Centers and Elementary Schools, we will have Buddy Bags available for the students who bring a meal from home.
Buddy Bags come in many different forms, so you will never know what to expect!
Does your student still want a fully compliant meal as well as their lunch box? That is no problem either!
Please have your students and/or staff reach out to the Cafeteria Manager for more information!

π¦ Wallace Gregg Elementary π¦
Let's give a shoutout to the team at Wallace Gregg!
They are a group full of team players and truly love all of the students they feed each day. The school is running a very interesting and unique program throughout the school year that has, what I like to call "Harry Potter Vibes." Each member on the cafeteria team participates alongside the entire school, and our Unit Lead, Joye, is one of the staff house leaders for the program. She is a proud member of the "Amistad Tribe", and can be frequently seen wearing her red jacket! (pictured)
Read information on the program below:
- Overview: A social emotional learning initiative designed to promote student engagement, inclusion and positive school culture.
- Structure: All students and staff are divided into four distinct tribes, each with its own unique colors, chants, crest, and characteristics.
- Competition: Throughout the year, members compete to earn points for academic achievement and positive behaviors.
