Safety: Drills and Emergencies
This is a gentle reminder that to help maintain building safety and security, students are expected to show ID whenever they enter the building. If your child does not have their ID when entering the building they will be asked to sign in with the greeter when entering.
If your child leaves for lunch, or any other reason, they will have to show ID or sign in every time they reenter the building.
Please note: We will have an Emergency Response Drill in February run by our SRO and local law enforcement.

Athletics
Our merged Varsity Boys Fox Lane–John Jay Swim and Dive Team finished their regular season 7-1. They closed their dual meet season with the best record in League 1.
Our merged Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Team, Section One NORTH, are the Section One League Champions.
Our Varsity Boys Alpine Ski Team is currently undefeated, and our Varsity Girls Alpine Ski Team has only one loss to date.
The Indoor Track and Field Team continues to develop their depth and breadth of events. At the January 20th League Championship our girls' team came in 2nd overall, led by stellar running performances by Sloan Wasserman, Emma Barniv, Ainsley Graham, Ava Koch, and Mia Haimelin.
Additionally, Girls 4x800 team had a win against Somers. In field events, we scored a 1-2-3 sweep in the girls’ high jump by Elyse Hermanto, Jillian Samuels and Mia Haimelin. Both Elyse and Jillian now share the school record for John Jay in high jump at 4’10”. Our boys' squad had outstanding running performances by Andy Condon, Dylan Scott, Nico Elias, Billy Poydar, and a 3rd place finish in shot put by Skyler Monasch, who is the record holder in that event for John Jay as of this season (38’11.75”). Billy Poydar and Nico Ellias also collaborated with Haolin Li and Jordan Tabs to take silver in the highly competitive 4x200 relay.
On Thursday, January 30th, our Boys Varsity Basketball Team won an inspiring game against Lakeland and managed to raise an incredible amount of over $2000 for the American Cancer Society! This special event was part of the Coaches vs Cancer: Suits and Sneakers Night, which also held a significant meaning for our community.
In addition to the excitement of the game, the night was also dedicated to honoring Brooke D’Aleo. The support and generosity of everyone who attended were truly heartwarming. Attendees eagerly made donations and filled out signs that were proudly displayed on the gym wall, honoring those who are currently fighting or have lost their battle with cancer. This would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our Boys Varsity Basketball Team, the coaches, and, of course, the generous contributions from all of you. Your compassion and willingness to support the fight against cancer are truly commendable.
Congratulations to all our JJHS athletes and teams as they wrap up their winter seasons and start their Section playoff competitions.

Keep Kids Moving All Winter
For most of us, as the temperature drops so does our activity level. But keeping active year-round is essential for everyone (not just kids) in maintaining a healthy weight, preventing the risk of chronic diseases, improving cardiovascular health, and building strong muscles and bones.
What’s more, among children and adolescents, increased physical activity has been shown to help improve attention, memory, executive functioning, processing speed, and cognition – all of which boost academic performance – and reduce the risk of depression.
So how much do we all need? Click here to view a breakdown of the amount of physical activity needed for each age group.
