From the Principal... From the Principal...

We have officially wrapped up our Quarter 1 benchmark testing! Our students worked hard completing assessments in math, reading, and SAEBRS (social-emotional behavior). Together, these results give us a wonderfully well-rounded view of each child's academic growth and overall well-being, helping us tailor our instruction to support them best as we head into Quarter 2.

Have a great weekend!

Important Safety Reminders: Car Rider Line Updates Important Safety Reminders: Car Rider Line Updates

To keep all students safe and ensure a smooth dismissal process, please review these key updates to our car rider procedures:

  • Stay in the Designated Car Rider Line: Please remain in your vehicle within the official pickup line. Do not park across the street or encourage your child to walk into traffic to meet you.

  • No Middle-of-the-Street Pickups: Loading students in the middle of the street creates severe safety risks for children and blocks neighborhood traffic. All student loading must happen directly from the curb inside the car rider line.

  • Parking Lot Section Blocked: We are closing off a portion of the parking lot that has been causing traffic bottlenecks and safety concerns. Please follow the posted cones and staff directions to navigate the updated loop.

  • Students will wait at the sidewalk until approved to cross the street to assist with traffic and student safety.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff!

20 Book Challenge 20 Book Challenge

We’re challenging our Chargers to read 20 books this school year! Reading is more than a challenge—it’s a way to build academic vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and support growth in STAR Reading data.

How it works:

  • 📖 Read 20 books (or more) throughout the school year.
  • ✏️ Keep a list of the books you read and write a short summary for each one.
  • 🎯 When you reach 10 books, let your ELA teacher know!
  • 📝 When you reach 20 books, turn in your completed book list and summaries to your ELA teacher.

And there are rewards! Students who complete the challenge will earn 50 House Points, plus a special treat. We’ll also celebrate our top readers with a pizza party and House Points!

More Readers. Stronger Chargers!

E-Learning Day Schedule and Student Expectations E-Learning Day Schedule and Student Expectations

E-Learning days can be used in lieu of emergency days. As a result of this, our students will be learning virtually on a day that would have previously been considered a “snow day.” The number of e-learning days may not exceed the number of emergency days in the approved school calendar, which is five per ISBE requirements. E-learning days will count as student attendance days, and as work days for employees. If all E-learning days are exhausted emergency days may still need to be utilized.

Student Expectations:

Students are required to login during the above assigned times following our e-learning schedule. Teachers will take attendance and provide synchronous instruction. This is a regular school day and attendance is required. Teachers and staff will provide synchronous instruction and asynchronous learning activities. Office hours are also available for students who may have any questions or concerns.

As in any regular school day, students are expected to behave appropriately while online and consequences will be given for any failure to comply.

If your student is not able to connect due to not having their laptop or internet issues, please contact their teachers so that they may work with students to make up synchronous and asynchronous work.

Do you want to shoutout a Chiddix staff member? Do you want to shoutout a Chiddix staff member?

The purpose of this form is to provide recognition to CJHS staff members for outstanding work in our school building. This form is open to any district staff member, community member, family member, parent/guardian, students and anyone else who would like to recognize someone that works for our school. You may also choose to recognize someone in the building who isn't a classroom teacher, but supports our building in a non-teaching role (administrative assistants, teaching assistants, food service, custodians, etc.)

We believe that recognition should be timely and authentic in order to serve people best. Thank you very much for taking the time to recognize someone at Chiddix, and thank you for supporting our work with students and each other!

Hello Ironmen students, families, guardians, staff, and fans. A Reminder: You may have recently seen that Unit 5 is piloting a clear bag policy for all Varsity Football Games (post below). We wanted to share some additional detals to help you all prepare as we approach our home game on September 25th. Here is the original Unit 5 post followed by additional information that is important to note:

Unit 5 is piloting a clear bag policy at varsity football games this season as part of our ongoing efforts to provide a safe and welcoming environment for fans.

Clear bag policies are widely used by other school districts in our conference and at many venues throughout our community. They make it easier for staff to quickly see what is being brought into the stadium while helping keep the entry process moving.

As we pilot this additional safety measure, please remember the clear bag policy applies to fans of all ages. We appreciate everyone working with us and look forward to a great season of football!

Additional Clear Bag Information to Help Prepare:

  • Clear bags can be no larger than 12x6x12. A 1 gallon resealable bag is ok.
  • Small clutch purses can be no larger than 4.5 x 6.5
  • Diaper bags (when infant is present) and medically necessary equipment bags are allowed
  • All bags are subject to search prior to entry

Game Entry Expectations:

  • All Jr. High and High School students must have a current School ID to enter
  • Elementary and Jr. High students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian the entire game
  • No entry after halftime
  • No readmission if one exits the stadium
  • No pets (exception - service animals)
  • All fans are asked to depart within 15 minutes after completion of the game
  • All fans and students from schools other than NCHS will enter and sit on the Visitor Side

Prohibited Items (items not allowed to enter the stadium):

  • Laser pointers, Air horns, Whistles, Bull horns, Speakers (audio)
  • Outside food or drink
  • Water bottles
  • Sports balls (footballs, socccer balls, etc)
  • Weapons of any kind (including concealed carry)
  • Any items deemed dangerous or inappropriate
  • No smoking or vaping on school property

We will have visual reminders as fans approach the stadium. We appreciate your help and support as we prepare for our varsity home football games!
