Benton Weekly Update

It's hard to believe this is the final week of school. We closed out last week with a field day for our 6th Graders and the 8th Grade Dance. I hope all our students will close the year with positive memories of their time here at Benton.

For this last week of school, Monday is the regular schedule with dismissal at 3:00pm. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, dismissal is at 1:15pm.

This week, students who have purchased yearbooks will be able to pick them up Monday from 8am-8:30am. If you did not purchase a yearbook, we have a very limited number of yearbooks for sale and are making a waiting list.

The Dress Code is still in force, please check your student's outfit of the day!

Promotion practice is on Wednesday. It is very important that all 8th Graders participating in the Promotion Ceremony are here on time Wednesday. Students will report to their 5B class for attendance, and meet on the Basketball Courts at 8:50. Students will practice where to sit, etc. for Promotion. Following the Promotion practice is our 8th Grade Field Day and Lunch sponsored by our Benton PTSA. 8th Grade students will receive their congratulatory yard signs at the end of the day.

On Wednesday, the Jr. Thespians will travel to the Pantages Theatre to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The big event this week is 8th Grade Promotion on the last day of school, Thursday at 9am. The ceremony will last about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Following Promotion, 8th Graders may leave with their families. Seating is first come, first serve, and the gates will open for guest at 8:35am. Parking is a challenge. Please be respectful of our neighbors; there is no parking at Beatitudes Church. Consider dropping family off and parking over by Marshalls or way down the block. Thank you for your patience.

All students should return any hardcover textbooks, music books, library books by Wednesday. Students keep the soft cover textbooks for Math & ELA. All 8th Graders should have turned in their iPads, charging brick and cable last week. Students who have lost their chargers will be charged for replacement (no aftermarket replacements accepted as it voids our device warranties).

If you are moving or changing schools for next year, please let the office know by calling or emailing twohlford@nlmusd.org. This helps us plan for classes and staffing for next year, and ensures that we have your students' information ready to send along to their new school. But don't leave us, we'll miss you!

If you're staying, please make sure all incoming 7th Grade students have their TDAP vaccination and that you have completed the online registrations. Are you checking those emails and phone numbers carefully? Every time I send out an email blast to parents, I get about 20 back that are undeliverable.

There may be a limited number of yearbooks available for purchase. Cash only, $35 on first come, first serve basis.

Students will attend periods 1A– 4A on Wednesday. This Wednesday, we are on a Minimum Day Schedule and are out at 1:15pm.

The Promotion Ceremony for 8th Graders is on Thursday, June 5th at 9am. Each 8th grader will receive 4 tickets. If you need more tickets, please email Ms. Ridgeway. Seating is first-come, first served. Please note that 6th and 7th Grade siblings will NOT be dismissed from class to attend Promotion. If you would like them to attend, they should arrive with you and will need a ticket.

Following Promotion, 8th Grade students are dismissed for the day and you may take them home to celebrate and start their summer!

The school office is open 7am-3pm during the summer. The office will close on June 23 and reopen on July 17th.

As you can see below, we have A Days and B Days. Students have periods 1A-4A on A Days, every Monday and Thursday, and periods 5B-8B on B Days, every Tuesday and Friday. On Wednesdays, we alternate between A Days and B Days.
