Safety K-9 Visit

On the afternoon of Thursday, November 7, 2024, Gompers was placed in a "Hold & Teach" status. At that time, the Joliet Police Department's special K-9 Unit, in conjunction with the School Administration, conducted a visit. Ensuring safety is our top priority, and occasional K-9 visits help us assess the safety climate within our school community. After walking through and inspecting our hallways, locker areas, and public spaces, the drill concluded without any issues or concerns to report. All families can feel assured that students at Gompers are safe from harmful substances and drugs on campus. We will continue to conduct additional K-9 visits throughout the year to monitor and enhance safety for all students at Gompers.

All Assignments Due Soon

All make-ups, exams, projects, and assignments must be turned in soon in order for them to count for the end of the trimester report card. The trimester ends on November 15, 2024. Take a moment to review Aspen with your student to see what assignments are missing or incomplete. Students still have time to make-up work if they start this week. If you have any questions, please contact the teacher to get the information you need to help your student succeed.

Attending After-School Activities

All parents and students are welcome to attend our afterschool activities at Gompers. We want everyone to enjoy our events, but all students wishing to attend after-school events must have been at school that day in order to attend after-school events, practices, games, fieldtrips, or activities. If your student is absent from school, they will not be allowed to attend the after-school activity. Thank you for helping all students make attending school a priority before extracurricular participation.

"Pick 2" Calendar

As we approach the upcoming holiday breaks, we are implementing a "Pick 2" Daily Curriculum Activities Calendar to increase student achievement. This calendar has been distributed to our school, and we encourage students to complete 2 activities each day alongside any assigned homework.

To make this initiative even more engaging, students will receive a Smencil when they turn in their signed calendar, confirming that they have completed the two activities daily for the entire month.

Thank you for your partnership.

Who do you call if your student has a conflict with another student?

Please call our office at 815.727.5276, and ask to speak with your student's Academic Advisor. At Gompers, the Academic Advisors work with all the students at the grade level and travel with them from year to year. This is done so they get to know the students well and can support them through the three years they are at Gompers. Like a dean at the high school, Academic Advisors manage 90% of the disciplinary issues, and are a great resource to parents on problem-solving most conflicts that arise. Call or email your Academic Advisor for help right away. They are here for you to help your student succeed!

Attendance Strategies

Parent involvement is important for school attendance because it can help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally, and it can also improve our school's culture. Below are strategies that you can use to develop healthy attendance habits with your children:

  • Create a routine: Set a regular bedtime and wake-up schedule and give yourself and your child enough time to get ready in the morning.
  • Plan ahead: Have your child pick out their clothes and shoes the night before, and pack their backpack with snacks, water, and completed homework.
  • Support our school: Praise our school and support our staff.
  • If you are having trouble getting your child to school, please contact the office for more strategies and/or resources.
