Service Day a Huge Success!
BWMS Parents and Community,
I would like to thank the students and staff for their flexibility and encouragement as we prepare for our annual service day. There was much joy at our school after students returned from serving the community. No act of service, no matter how small is ever wasted. Top it off, we finished the day with the BWMS Got Talent Show and Staff vs Student Dodgeball Game. I'd say that was a great day!
100% of staff and students showed great effort and generosity to support our greater Big Walnut Community at 50+ sites totaling over 2700 hours of support. Truly SOARing Students - ones that choose to go above and beyond expectations. I want to thank our Principal Leadership Team for helping plan such an event. I also would like to thank our staff for believing in such a day and commitment to modeling service each and every day of the year. We greatly appreciate our BWMS PTO and Sponsors who believe in this project and in our students. Finally, I want to thank the community and parents for encouraging our students to be involved citizens with a heart for service and a mind which thinks of others. Great job BWMS!
Special Shout Out to our wonderful BWMS PTO for fantastic Staff Appreciation Week. The adults at BWMS felt the love and appreciation this week.

Important Updates
- Special thanks to our BWMS PTO and Families for spoiling the staff during Staff Appreciation Week!
- The Spring Concert is Tuesday 5/12/26. Choir at 6pm, Orchestra at 6:45 and 7:15 for Band.
- The parent information night for incoming 6th grade students is Wednesday 5/13/26 at 6:30PM in the auditorium.
- BWMS will be collecting the Chromebooks of all 8th grade students on Thursday 5/14/26 during math classes.
- The Spring Musical Performances from our theatre classes will be on Thursday 5/14/26 at 7PM.
- SOAR Day is Friday 5/15/26. Final details will be shared soon from our SOAR and Student Council.
- The luggage check for the 8th grade DC Trip is Sunday 5/17/26 from 4:00-5:30 at BWMS. Also, please note that all medications need to be brought at this time.
- 8th grade trips for Ohio and DC are on 5/18/26 through 5/21/26. As a reminder, all school fees need to be paid in order to participate in the trips.
- Incoming 6th grade students will visit BWMS on Tuesday 5/19/26.
- The last day for students is on Thursday 5/21/26. We will follow a two hour early release schedule for this day.
Washington DC Update for 8th Grade Students
Great news…our trip coordinators have been able to finalize our 2026 Washington DC trip! Please find the Parent Packet and what to expect in the next week:
Chaperone groups and bus groups will be available to students on Friday May 1st.
Parents will be receiving a Spring Parent Packet with trip information next week. Please be looking for it to arrive in your email inbox. It will also be posted on the BWMS website.
On May 12th, Ms Ainsworth, Ms. Barr, and Mr. Grieger will be chatting with 8th graders who are attending the trip for 45 minutes. Students will be informed of specific trip expectations, given a packet (this packet will also be included in the parent packet that will be emailed next week), and have time to ask questions.
On May 14th, students will meet with their chaperone to go over some final reminders.
Lastly, bag checks will be on May 17th from 4:00 - 5:30. Students are permitted 1 suitcase/duffel bag that will be checked during this time at BWMS. This luggage will be securely stored overnight. Also, this is the time to drop off medication. Please refer to the medication emails sent from Ms. Ainsworth for more information about this.
This makes our departure day much easier for everyone. Please note that students are also allowed to bring a carry-on bag that can go on the bus. This bag will be checked by their chaperone on Monday May 18th before we head to our nation’s capitol.

BWMS Athletic Information
Reminder that all athletes should have their final forms complete and a current OHSAA Evaluation Exam Form uploaded to Final Forms directly or emailed to Mrs. Kreager stephaniekreager@bwls.net. All physicals must be received prior to the first tryout date or first practice of the season.
