What's New at DHEMS?
8th grade students recently learned about dating violence and online safety from a presentation by Transitions of Pennsylvania.
Students in Mrs. Havill's class learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and baked one of his favorite desserts, peach cobbler.
Mrs. Walter's Pipe Cleaner Flowers club created some amazing variations of flowers during their first meeting of third marking period clubs.
Our RAPS students of the month from the first semester were recently treated to breakfast in the library.
Shane Gugenheim, 6th grade student, recently pulled a rare Macklin Celebrini card in Mr. West's Card Club.
Mr. Lepovetsky's 7th grade BCIT students practiced the art of interviewing, wrapping up an important semester of learning about obtaining desired careers.
As part of our advisory program, 8th grade students wrapped up their unit on stress and anxiety management by learning about positive self-talk. Students wrote positive affirmations and hung them in their lockers.
Mrs. Geer and Mr. Golfieri's 8th grade physical education students began their personal fitness unit, working through many aerobic and anaerobic stations.
German Club, a new club offered by Mrs. Kuczawa (Neuhard), learned some introductory language skills and a bit of German culture by crafting and eating their own Frickadellen.
American Mathematics Competition
Bucknell hosted the American Math Contest (AMC) and invited local middle schools to attend. A group of DHEMS students, accompanied by Mrs. Boyer, attended and participated in the national contest. Our students performed extremely well, with 8th graders Matthew Zhu, Henry Kerber, and 7th grader Lara Froicu all placing in the top three!

Dream Room Projects
Students in Mr. Salsman's Keystone Algebra class applied a number of mathematical skills to build their Dream Room Projects. With a budget of $500,000, students apply their knowledge of solving for area, surface area, volume, discount costs, and sales tax to bring their dreams to life. Students had to consider the costs of purchasing flooring, paint, an appropriate HVAC system based on their square footage, and also the fun accessories such as televisions, game consoles, and furniture.

PSA Dance
Our next Dance/Fun Night will be held on Friday, February 20 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. This dance is hosted by DHEMS PSA. All funds raised directly benefit DHEMS students through PSA's support, such as helping to financially support Fun Day/Field Day at the end of the year. Parents, please help us promote a safe and enjoyable environment by reviewing the following information with your child:
- Students should arrive no earlier than 6:55 PM, and be picked up promptly at 9:00 PM. Please arrange with your child where you will be picking them up. This helps avoid confusion and helps our chaperones to get home at a decent time!
- Students must remain inside for the entirety of the dance. Students are not permitted to leave the dance early.
- Our cell phone policy is in effect during the dance. Students' cell phones should be turned off and are not permitted to be used during the dance.
- Our dress code policy is in effect during the dance. Please review the DHEMS student handbook if you have any questions about our dress code.
- Students should not bring backpacks or bags to the dance.
Showcasing Student Work
Our teachers have done an amazing job of showcasing student work this year. In practically any area of the middle school, you can see student work showcased on the walls, helping to fulfill our district mission of creating a sense of belonging for our students.
Spring Sports Meeting/Registration
Just in case you missed it... Spring sports registration is OPEN!
Please visit https://students.arbitersports.com/organizations/lewisburg-area-school-district to get your student registered before the registration window closes on February 28th. Sports physicals need to be handed into the Athletic Office before practices begin on March 2nd (HS) and March 16th (MS). If your student played a sport in the Fall or Winter, they do not need another physical completed for the Spring. If they had a physical completed at the school provided-appointments this past summer, we have them on file.
SPRING SPORTS MEETING will be held in the High School Auditorium on February 19th at 7pm. This is for all Middle school and High school spring sports. This is not a mandatory meeting but you will get important information from Gregg Wetzel (Athletic Director) and the coaches for the upcoming season. ***There will be no meeting for JH Boys Soccer on this date. Coach Martin will hold an informational meeting at a later date***
As always, Mrs. Rute will be available at the sports meeting to confirm your student has all necessary items completed to start the season. You may also hand in sports physicals and activity fees to her at that time.
Please reach out to the Athletic Office if you have any questions at 570-522-3233 or by emailing rute_k@dragon.k12.pa.us.
Submit Photos for the Yearbook
Have photos from school events, or activities? They could be featured in this year’s yearbook! Families and students are invited to upload appropriate photos using our eShare site. Submitting photos does not guarantee inclusion, but it gives our yearbook staff more moments to choose from as they capture the story of our school year. We are particularly interested in photos from the fall sports season! Click this link to upload your photos: https://yearbookshare.com/eShare/home and use code dhems.
