Everitt Middle School News
2/26/26
From Principal Alex
Hi Everitt families,
I can't believe we are at the cusp of March. I have the privilege of speaking with our class of 2030 tomorrow during CREW to both encourage and cajole them to finish middle school strong.
On Tuesday, Family Engagement Liaison Rose Gelski and I joined community stakeholders—including Mayor Corey Stites, Jeffco staff, and local non-profit leaders—at the Wheat Ridge Coalition quarterly meeting. Alongside Wheat Ridge High School Principal Lisa Mahannah and Stevens Principal Katie Mauro, I had the opportunity to highlight our ongoing collaboration.
Because 9th-grade course completion is a primary predictor of high school graduation, we are "front-loading" the transition process for our 8th graders. For example, our systemic approach to writing (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) aligns directly with the expectations of 9th-grade English, ensuring our students are able to hit the ground running next year.
We are also leaning into the success of Jeffco’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, which boast an impressive 94% graduation rate. While our current Tech Ed and STEM programs provide a strong foundation, we are actively planning to expand CTE pathways to offer our students even more specialized opportunities at WRHS.
On Thursday, Instructional Coach Sara Kendrick and I hosted members of the Jeffco Teaching and Learning Department for a walkthrough of our ELA classrooms. We saw everything from students making visual representations of themes from The Outsiders, determining trustworthy evidentiary sources for 7th grade research projects and writing full five paragraph essays in 8th grade GT.
I look forward to seeing many of you at next week’s PTA/Accountability meeting and on the sidelines for the basketball playoffs.
~Principal Alex

Next week is Return Borrowed Books Week! Please take a moment to check at home for any library books and send them back to school with your student. International Academic Competition
On Saturday, February 28th, select students will be competing in an academic "Bee" in Denver. Students participated in a mock competition yesterday. They answered complicated and difficult questions about history, science and geography and impressed the handful of adults that were in the room. Jeopardy contestants don't have anything on these kids!
Help Out Our Hub!
Hello Everitt Families-
We have clothing available for students who need to change, (for various reasons) and we are getting low on pants. We have a good amount of smaller sizes, but we are really in need of some that are in bigger sizes. If you have pants that are gently used, please wash them and bring them to the front office. In middle school we have kids of all sizes, so all sizes are welcome!

Wheat Ridge Coalition meeting
Mr. Alex and Ms. Rose joined the Wheat Ridge Coalition meeting on Tuesday morning at Wheat Ridge High School. Ms. Mahannah (the principal) highlighted the school's growth and achievement. Staff's focus has been centered around the success of 9th graders passing all of their classes; setting them up to graduate on time, in the four short years in high school. The Coalition is made up of school representatives, Wheat Ridge city members, community partners and businesses. The Coalition meets quarterly.
Gone Boarding- A New S.T.E.M program
The Gone Boarding program offers an educational curriculum through the designing, building and riding of boards. Teachers Burke Edgar and Teegan Meyers want to bring the program to Wheat Ridge.
Gone Boarding would give students the opportunity to manufacture skateboards, long boards, paddle boards, skis and snowboards in the 3,000-foot manufacturing space, currently used by the school’s STEM program.
The three main goals Meyers and Edgar have for the program are bolstering enrollment through offering engaging, project-based curriculum, combining student passions with Career and Technical Education and offering access to outdoor activities for students who wouldn’t normally have that opportunity.
This all requires financial backing from private donors, local partnerships and charitable grants, not from the school budget.
“It’s a passion project because we both believe in the potential of it to be transformative for our school and our community,”- Burke Edgar.
