Bear Creek - Counselor Corner
October 2026
Hi Families-
And just like that, one quarter of the school year is behind us. Wow! It's really starts to fly by. There are some fun celebrations coming up where students can dress up to participate. See below!
COUNSELING LESSONS
Counseling lessons are going very well! Thank you for your continued partnership with having conversations at home about the value of these lessons and expectations for behavior in my class. I can tell that students have settled into the routine.
So far, we have covered the following topics:
- Intro the the Counselor/Kindness
- Self-Awareness
- Digital Citizenship
- Bullying (as part of Unity Day and Bullying Prevention Month)
- Next up is Brain Science & Emotional Regulation to go with Love Your Brain Week!
Don't forget to ask your student(s) about what we've talked about in counseling lately. They may share something interesting with you!
Here is a complete list of the topics we covered last year. Counseling lessons will follow a similar timeline with some variation.
- Introduction to the Counselor/ Kindness
- Self-Awareness
- Zones of Regulation
- Kindness/Friendships
- Bullying
- Healthy Decision-Making
- Problem-Solving / Conflict Resolution
- Communication/Assertiveness
- Perseverance/Goal-Setting

If you'd ever like more information about counseling lessons, I'd be more than happy to speak with you about it.
Together we will continue to build an even better, thriving Bear Creek full of strong, resilient kids!

Love Your Brain Week is Next Week, Oct. 26-30th!
Next week we will celebrate being healthy in our bodies and minds for life. When we take care of ourselves, we can have fun, learn, and be our very best. Be sure to join in the dress up days!
Unity Day was Oct 21st, and we showed up in ORANGE!
On 10/21, we wore orange as a campus to celebrate Unity and the traits of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and spread the message that, together, we can prevent bullying. Check out the gigantic bear cub paw that every child help make during counseling lessons. It symbolizes that we are a community in which everyone belongs!

Mental Health Awareness Month - "Kindness Grows at Bear Creek" Tree
This is from the end of last school year, but I love it so much I'm going to leave it up for a bit longer.
Counselor Check-In Referral Form
If you'd like to refer your child to the counselor, please use this FORM. A counselor "check-in" is a short meeting where I assess the student's needs and whether follow-up is needed.
Bear Creek's Comprehensive Counseling Program
A counselor helps students fully develop their academic, career, personal and social abilities as recommended by TEA and the ASCA national model. At Bear Creek, we offer a Comprehensive Counseling Program to our students and families, and it is organized in the following way:
Core Counseling Curriculum: Meeting with students for classroom lessons provide the counselor a way to consistently reach every student on campus. At Bear Creek, lessons focused on social/emotional learning are provided bi-weekly and are either held in the library for grades 3rd-5th or in the Counseling Office for grades Pre-K - 2nd.
Responsive Services: The counselor provides individual assistance to students when a problem or concern is affecting their educational achievement. The counselor may also meet with small groups of children who share similar concerns.
Individual Planning: The counselor assists students with transitions to middle school, goal setting, classroom behavior support and can provide resources to parents depending on student's needs.
System Support: The counselor supports the students' educational achievement in partnership with caregivers and staff through consultation. Please contact me if you would like a consultation.
