Attendance: Every School Day Counts! Attendance: Every School Day Counts!

Imagine a staircase leading to your child's dreams and future success. Each step on that staircase represents a day of learning, growth, and connection at school. Missing even a few steps can create gaps, making the climb more challenging. Regular school attendance is not just about being present; it's about actively participating in the journey of education, building a strong foundation of knowledge, and developing crucial social and emotional skills. Did you know that students who miss just two to four days in the first month of school are five times more likely to become chronically absent throughout the entire year?

It's a common myth that missing a day here and there won't significantly impact a child's education. However, research shows that missing 10% of the school year, which is about 18 days, can negatively affect a student's academic performance. This means missing 2 days a month would lead to 20 absences over 10 months! This can lead to falling behind in reading by third grade and even increase the likelihood of dropping out of high school. The good news is that consistent attendance is a powerful predictor of future success, not just in academics but also in developing the social skills and emotional well-being necessary for a fulfilling life. By making regular attendance a priority, we are investing directly in our children's futures and helping them reach their full potential.

Parents & guardians, please take our attendance survey! It’ll take 3 mins to complete and really help our school district collect important data and feedback! https://forms.gle/yfiJ1iDH8yZcBEYe7

Turning Trash into Treasure: Our Kitchen's Composting Success! Turning Trash into Treasure: Our Kitchen's Composting Success!

zoom_out_map

Did you know our cafeteria kitchen is making a big difference for our planet? Thanks to a fantastic grant from the Bergen County Utilities Authority (BCUA), we've teamed up with the amazing folks at Neighborhood Compost to turn food scraps into rich, healthy soil!

Here's how it works: Every day, as our dedicated kitchen staff prepares delicious meals, they collect all those veggie peels, fruit cores, and extra bits of food into special 5-gallon buckets provided by Neighborhood Compost. We get eight buckets a week, and by Friday, they're all brimming with food waste! Then Neighborhood Compost whisks them away to their farm in Northwest NJ.

The food scraps become a feast for farm animals or get transformed into super-powered compost in giant piles! It's like a natural recycling process, turning something we'd normally throw away into something incredibly useful.

And guess what? Since we started this exciting journey in January, we've already diverted a whopping 885 pounds of food waste from the landfill! That's a huge win for our environment.

But the best part? Next month, when our Garden Club starts planting seedlings and getting our outdoor gardens ready, Neighborhood Compost will be bringing fresh, nutrient-rich compost right back to our school!

Want to get involved or learn more about our school's green initiatives? Reach out to Sam Chiang at Central Office (sachiang@bogotaboe.com). We'd love for you to join us in making our school even more eco-friendly!"
