Emergency Readiness Expo & Resource Fair; District preparations for El Niño
In advance of the coming El Niño storms that government meteorologists say could be of historic impact, the City of Salinas has declared a state of emergency. And because previous storms have disrupted services and damaged public and private property, the city wants residents to be prepared.
On Monday, Oct. 26, the city is sponsoring an Emergency Readiness Expo & Resource Fair. Speakers and community partners will be on hand to share knowledge, answer questions and offer resources people need to protect themselves, their families and their property.
As the city prepares for the storms, so too is the District. We ask that parents and guardians update or create an emergency plan, which includes assembling essential supplies, keeping phones charged, and planning for possible transportation delays or school schedule changes.
Stay informed through District communications, monitor local weather alerts, and avoid traveling through flooded areas. Working together, we can help keep our students, families, and staff safe.
How the District Is Preparing
Inspecting and securing campuses: Checking roofs, gutters, drains, trees, and outdoor areas to prevent or reduce flooding and storm damage.
Reviewing emergency procedures: Ensuring school leaders and staff are prepared to respond to severe weather and power outages.
Coordinating with local agencies: Working with emergency responders and local authorities to monitor storm conditions, road closures, and potential hazards.
Keeping families informed: Providing timely updates through ParentSquare, the District website, and other communication channels regarding school operations and safety precautions.
Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign that encourages students to make healthy choices and live drug-free lives. Throughout the week, schools celebrate the importance of making safe, positive decisions through fun activities, special themes, and age-appropriate lessons.
Families can join the conversation at home by talking with their children about healthy habits, making good choices, and the importance of staying safe. Together, we can help our students build bright, healthy futures!
