Maverick Community News: Summer Edition 7/27/26
Dear Mav Nation,
A we gear up for a new school year, I want to welcome everyone to the 2026-2027 school year at Manvel High School. My name is Jamie Baldwin and I'm excited for year 3 as the principal at MHS. This will be my 18th year in education with 11 and half of my years at MHS. I previously served as the principal at Rodeo Palms JH for 2 school years and have enjoyed moving up with my Razorbacks. The class of 2027 will be my original 8th graders!
I love serving the Manvel community and look forward to partnering with you for the success of our students. Our number one goal at MHS is to ensure the safety of all our students and staff members. All decisions are made with safety in mind. Our second goal at MHS is to provide an academically rich environment to prepare your students for post secondary opportunities by offering a wide range of courses and extracurricular opportunities. Below are a few need to knows for families as we start a new school year.
Dress Code Reminders
All students are expected to follow the Alvin ISD Dress code. The full dress code can be found by clicking here to help you with back to school shopping. The most common dress code infractions seen are midriff/tank tops, tights, short shorts and slides. Please make sure that all shirts cover your students mid section. Tights are not an appropriate bottom for school. The biggest misconception is tights can be worn with a t-shirt. Tights can only be worn with a garment (i.e. dress, skirt)that is no shorter than 3 inches above the knee. Joggers are a great alternative to tights and leggings. Shorts also need to be an appropriate length for all students. They should be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee. All footwear must be worn with a heel or back strap, this includes crocks. I have personally seen students in slides and sandals fall or trip due to someone accidently stepping on the back of a slide or a sandal sliding off a foot during transition.
Student IDs
All secondary students will receive a smart ID. This is the same type of ID that all Alvin ISD students had last school year. The smart ID has technology for bus riding tracking, can be used to checkout books from the library and can be used to purchase food from the cafeteria.
More information will be sent out once an ID delivery date has been confirmed.
Student Support Team
All students have an alpha assistant principal, an alpha counselor and an attendance clerk based on the students last name. This team is your go to for questions about attendance, student management, academics and your student's well being. Questions about grades and classroom instruction should be directed to the classroom teacher first as they are the content expert. If you still require further assistance, your alpha assistant principal or alpha counselor is the next level of support. The contact information for all principals and counselors can be found below.
Electronic Device Policy
House Bill 1481, was passed by the Texas Legislature last school year. This law requires all school boards to adopt a policy that limits student use of personal communication devices such as cell phones and smartwatches while on school property during the school day. The purpose of this legislation is to help minimize distractions and enhance student learning. It also mandates that school districts implement disciplinary measures for students who violate the policy. Click here for the full HB 1481 Policy
We are excited to welcome all staff members back on August 3, 2026 . Please be patient with the student support team as everyone is working hard to prepare for back to school and ensure everything is ready for our freshman on August 12th and our 10th -12th grade students on August 13th.

Is your student on track to earn a CCMR Point?
As we look ahead to a successful 2025-26 school year, we want to make you aware of a new state law, House Bill 1481, which was passed by the Texas Legislature. House Bill 1481 prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the school day.
This law applies to:
- Cell phones
- Smartwatches
- Earbuds and headphones
- Tablets or any device that can text, call, record, or access the internet
In Alvin ISD, the expectation is simple: Not Seen. Not Heard. Not Taken.
Students may bring phones and personal electronic devices to school.
However, from the moment students enter the building in the morning until the final dismissal bell cell phones must be powered off or silenced, stored in a backpack or locker, and not used during class, passing periods, lunch, or restroom breaks.
Use in the Hallways
The use of personal communication devices in prohibited at all times.
Use at Lunch
Lunch is considered part of the school day so the use of electronic devices is prohibited under Texas Law.
Emergency Situations
Administrators may approve the use of cell phones in emergency situations where the device is necessary for the health or safety of students or others.
The Texas law requires school districts to administer disciplinary consequences if students violate the personal communication device policy in schools. Each infraction of this policy will result in the following escalating consequences:
- First offense – Device taken, returned to student
- Second – Parent must pick up
- Third – $15 fine + parent pickup
Refusal to hand over a device = disciplinary action per the Student Code of Conduct
Why this matters:
This law supports focused classrooms, respectful spaces, and safe learning for all.
Parents:
Please talk with your child about expectations before school starts. For emergencies, contact the campus office.
